Description
Knight is a series of KSTAR off-grid solar inverters of 3.6 and 6 kW. It includes the models Knight 3600-24, 3600-48 and 6000-48, where the second number indicates the battery voltage in volts. The output is a pure sine wave, so household and office equipment, lighting and other loads can be connected to the inverter.
The intended use is homes and small businesses where the grid is weak or absent. The inverter distributes energy between the solar panels, the battery and the grid according to priorities set by the user. Operation with a diesel generator is supported, so supply is not interrupted during a long absence of sun and grid. The transfer to backup power takes place without interruption for the load.
The PV input is rated for an open-circuit voltage Voc of up to 500 V, with an MPPT range of 120–450 V. The battery is connected at 24 or 48 V and can be lead-acid or lithium iron phosphate. The charge current from PV and grid together reaches 120 A, and several intelligent charging modes are provided. The battery stage is built as a high-frequency isolated DC-DC converter, which separates the battery from the rest of the circuit.
Efficiency reaches 93.5 %. The enclosure ingress protection rating is IP21, that is, for indoor use only, without direct water ingress. For dusty places a dust protection kit is supplied, there is a contamination alarm, and built-in temperature sensors monitor heating. The model is chosen by two parameters, namely the load power and the battery voltage. The 24 V versions suit smaller systems, while the 48 V version 6000-48 is intended for larger ones, because at the same power the battery current is lower and the cables are thinner. Lead-acid batteries and LiFePO4 have different charging profiles, so the type is selected in the inverter settings before the battery is connected. The generator operating mode is set according to its power and stability.
Power can be increased: up to six inverters work in parallel. Monitoring is carried out in real time through an app and a web interface. The PV terminals are built into the enclosure, which simplifies installation. The model is best selected with a manager based on the power and battery voltage.
