Description
The KSTAR wall-mounted DC station of 20–60 kW is intended for fast charging of electric vehicles where there is no room for a floor-standing cabinet. Direct current is fed to the traction battery directly, so voltage conversion takes place in the station itself, not in the vehicle's on-board charger. The station is compact and is fixed to a wall.
The output voltage range is 200–1000 V DC. KSTAR states that with this range the station suits all electric vehicles and other new-energy vehicles available on the market. The upper limit of 1000 V covers both ordinary and high-voltage traction batteries.
The power section of the KSTAR station is modular, on the plug-and-play principle. The station's power is built up from separate power modules, so it is increased by adding modules without replacing the whole station. This design simplifies expansion and installation and reduces installation costs. It is convenient if the load on the charging site grows gradually.
The modular design means the station can be put into operation with part of the modules and the rest added later, when vehicle traffic grows. If needed, an individual module is replaced without changing the rest of the station. Wall mounting frees the car park floor, and the cable does not lie across the driveway. For a project, this means simpler planning of the parking bay layout and less foundation work. A session is started with a card or by scanning a QR code. Communication with the metering and management system runs over Ethernet or 4G. The station transmits charging data and has high immunity to interference, which is needed at sites where a lot of power equipment operates nearby.
Several things are taken into account when designing the site. The grid connection capacity must match the number of installed modules. The space on the wall and the distance to the parking bay determine the cable length and ease of approach. The communication channel, Ethernet or 4G, is chosen depending on whether the site has a cable network. The final configuration of the station is agreed against the manufacturer's technical data, and the power for a specific site is selected within 20–60 kW.
