Description
The manufacturer is one of the world's leading suppliers of synchronous generators for marine power plants. These are diesel-driven generators and shaft generators that operate at both constant and variable speed. Variants from low to medium voltage are offered, adapted to the exact requirements of the customer's vessel.
The marine generators are rated 2500–16,000 kVA, with voltage up to 11 kV, 4–14 poles and frame sizes from 560 mm to frame size 11. The generators are installed on passenger ships (cruise ships and ferries), offshore vessels and naval ships, and the projects have been carried out under the supervision of all the major classification societies.
The manufacturer has considerable experience with engineered-to-order machines. For a ship, dimensions, noise level and performance matter, and the design is selected precisely for these figures. The engineering capability makes it possible to find the best option for the vessel's target figures for dimensions, noise level and performance. Marine generators, like the rest of the manufacturer's machines, are calculated by finite element methods (electromagnetic, thermal, strength and rotor-dynamic analysis), and the windings are insulated with the MICASYSTEM® VPI system.
For ships the manufacturer also supplies propulsion motors, frequency converters, energy storage systems (including marine batteries and supercapacitors) and electric propulsion and winch systems. The portfolio includes a high-speed marine permanent magnet generator of 2 MW, 22,500 rpm, for direct coupling to a gas turbine. The machines are built to the customer's specification, down to the choice of colour, and the synchronous versions have a salient-pole or cylindrical rotor depending on speed and frame size. Electric propulsion equipment for fleets is designed and manufactured in Italy. For offshore projects there are also compact topside drives without an output step-up transformer, for powering subsea pump and compressor motors with a cable up to 50 km long, which fit into the limited space during FPSO retrofits. Applications are main and auxiliary generators of marine power plants, shaft generators and generators of electric propulsion plants of cruise ships, ferries, the offshore fleet and navies.
