Description
Air-cooled multi-pole generators are intended for small decentralized power plants driven by gas engines and other internal combustion engines. The manufacturer links their design to its experience with multi-pole hydro generators and turbogenerator production in Weiz (Austria). This makes it possible to design multi-pole machines for practically any speed, voltage and output. For a gas engine drive, such a machine is selected to match the engine speed, not the other way round.
A reciprocating engine drive creates uneven torque, so special requirements are placed on such generators. These are vibration resistance, electrical robustness, a large moment of inertia, the method of installation and the cooling system. The generator is made to the customer's requirements. It is selected together with the engine, taking into account speed, moment of inertia and permissible torsional vibrations of the shaft. The terminals are arranged for the cable scheme of the plant. Excitation is offered as brushless or static. The brushless type needs no slip rings or brushes, and the static type feeds the field winding from the generator's own terminals through a controlled rectifier, so the choice depends on the plant design.
The technical data according to the brochure are as follows. Frequency 50/60 Hz, speed 900/1,000 rpm, voltage 3.3–13.8 kV, output up to 15 MVA. Cooling is open ventilation, excitation is static or brushless without a PMG pilot exciter. Such ventilation simplifies and speeds up installation, including in remote areas, because heat exchangers and water circuits are not needed.
The double-sided terminal output is made with a twin internal scheme. The terminals can be moved from left to right, so the plant layout stays flexible. The THYNE excitation system, as well as protection and synchronization in the GCP panel, can be supplied in the package, so the plant gets a coordinated set for generator control.
The generator responds flexibly to changes in grid conditions, is resistant to grid faults and helps to stabilize the grid. It is used at gas engine mini-CHP plants and in cogeneration, at standby and peak plants, at power plants running on associated gas and biogas, and in island grids.
