Description
The manufacturer presents itself as the author of this concept and combines its own experience in mechanics and electrical engineering in it. The aim of the design is to reduce the cost of energy through high efficiency and compactness. Several planets in each of the three planetary stages give a torque density above 200 Nm/kg. The manufacturer links the savings potential of the drivetrain to its deep system knowledge, accumulated over many years of work with gearboxes and generators for wind turbines.
The generator is built as a compact, oil-cooled medium speed machine, according to the manufacturer the first of its kind. Permanent magnets make it possible to keep an identical design for any grid frequency without changing the gear ratio. The gearbox bearing also serves as the generator support, and the functional integration shortens the drivetrain by up to 50 %. The share of rare earth materials is 80 % lower than in direct drive systems, which simplifies long-term cost planning.
The exhibition unit shown at WindEnergy Hamburg has a power of 6 MW, a rated torque of 6 000 kNm and a gear ratio of 60.6. Gearbox efficiency reaches 99 %, generator efficiency 98 %, with oil/water cooling. Short-circuit torque is limited to 1.3 times the rated value, and the coupling torque is 9 MNm. The permissible misalignments are ±5 mm axially, 1.4 mm radially and 0.3 mrad angular. The generators of series drivetrains are cooled by oil, water or air, and the low speed shaft interface is made flexible, rigid, fully integrated or with a coupling.
The drivetrain fits any nacelle layout. Converters and transformers are placed modularly at the top of the nacelle or at the tower base. The compact closed design is resistant to weather effects such as sandstorms. The FlexibleFit modular concept is built on HybridDrive. A standardized, pre-engineered and validated gearbox-generator module that carries pure torsional load is complemented by adapter modules for the rotor support structures of different turbines. Assembly and testing of the entire drivetrain are carried out in one place. The Digital Gearbox with torque measurement and plain bearings are available as options. For the turbine manufacturer this is a ready proven unit instead of separately designing the gearbox and generator and matching them to each other. The concept is aimed primarily at large machines of onshore and offshore wind farms.
