W60 medium-voltage induction motors 2.3–13.8 kV: vertical up to 7500 kW and stock WPII
W60 is a line of medium-voltage induction motors for 2300–13 800 V with a rigid carbon steel frame. Vertical machines rated 1000–7500 kW drive mainly centrifugal pumps in power generation, water supply, oil and gas and mining. Horizontal WPII motors rated 250–2250 hp at 2300/4000 V are designed for the American market.

Description
The W60 line is designed modularly, so the cooling system and the electromagnetic and mechanical parts are changed for a specific drive, in particular for external axial loads from the hydraulic thrust of the pump. The heat exchanger or ventilation box is located on one side of the frame.
Vertical W60 motors are built for 1000–7500 kW at 2300–13 800 V and 50 or 60 Hz, with 4–18 poles, in frame sizes 450 and 900, for S1 duty with a service factor of 1.00. Cooling is IC01, IC611 with an air-to-air heat exchanger or IC81W with an air-to-water heat exchanger. The circuits are single-sided: cold air enters at the bottom and hot air leaves at the top. The non-drive-end bearing is chosen according to the axial load (angular contact grease-lubricated, spherical roller thrust oil-lubricated or hydrodynamic sleeve), and the drive-end guide bearing is a ball bearing.
In the base version the insulation is class F with a formed winding and VPI impregnation, the stator terminal box is IP66, with two Pt-100 sensors per phase and one per bearing, a heater, a water leak sensor for IC81W and an air inlet filter of AISI 304 steel for IC01. Enclosure ingress protection is from IP24 to IP55, and IP56 and IP65/IP66 to order. Options include starting from a VFD or soft starter, class H, vibration and speed sensors, a backstop (non-reverse ratchet), current transformers for differential protection, surge arresters and a capacitor, Ex ec, Ex eb, Ex tc, Ex tb, Class I and Class II Division 2 versions, and CE, UL, CSA, EAC and GOST R certificates.
Horizontal W60 WPII motors belong to the stock range for the American market. They are built for 250–2250 hp, with 2 and 4 poles, at 2300/4000 V 60 Hz, in frame sizes 5010/11, 5810/11 and 6810/11, in WPII (IP24) design. The insulation is Global VPI, temperature rise is class B at service factor 1.00 and class F at 1.15, and efficiency is at NEMA Premium level. Sleeve bearings are insulated on both sides, the shaft is AISI 4140 steel, vibration is per API 541 and noise is 85 dB(A). The motors are designed for direct starting and for operation from a VFD with a 10:1 range at variable torque and 2:1 at constant torque, and are approved for Class I, Div. 2 areas (CSA).
All W60 motors are tested to NBR 5383, IEC 60034, NEMA MG 1 or API in laboratories with a capacity of up to 20 000 kVA and voltage of up to 15 000 V. Every machine undergoes acceptance tests, while type and special tests are carried out at the customer's request.

Questions and answers
What power do the vertical W60 motors have?
Rated power is 1000–7500 kW at 2300–13 800 V and 50 or 60 Hz. The number of poles is from 4 to 18.
What bearings are used in vertical W60 motors for axial load?
The non-drive-end bearing is angular contact grease-lubricated, spherical roller thrust oil-lubricated or hydrodynamic sleeve. The choice depends on the axial force of the rotor and the pump.
Can the W60 WPII motors be fed from a VFD?
Yes, they are designed for direct starting and operation from a VFD with a 10:1 range at variable torque and 2:1 at constant torque. Voltage is 2300/4000 V, frequency 60 Hz.
