W22Xdb — explosion-proof Ex db / Ex db eb medium- and high-voltage motors up to 13.8 kV
W22Xdb is a range of explosion-proof medium- and high-voltage induction motors up to 13 800 V with Ex db and Ex db eb types of protection, rated up to 9000 kW. They are built at the company's European plant, which has worked in the explosion-protected field since 1968. The motors drive pumps, compressors, fans and conveyors at oil and gas facilities, offshore platforms, chemical plants and in mines.

Description
Besides pumps and compressors, W22Xdb motors are used on gas and steam turbines, mixers and conveyors in hazardous areas. They are installed at oil and gas production sites, on offshore platforms and FPSOs, pipelines, chemical and petrochemical plants, in underground mines, and at sugar mills.
The range is built in two cooling variants. The finned cast-iron TEFC enclosure is cooled by a fan on the shaft (IC411), while in the TEAAC variant (IC511) the welded steel enclosure has a built-in tubular air-to-air heat exchanger with stainless steel tubes. IC416, IC418 and IC516 are available on request. Voltage is up to 13 800 V at 50 or 60 Hz, frame sizes from 315 to 1000. According to the power charts the range reaches 9000 kW in the 1.1–6.6 kV range (50 Hz) and up to 7100 kW in the 6.6–11 kV range.
The standard version is designed for zones 1 and 2, group IIB and temperature class T4, an ambient temperature from −20 to +40 °C and an altitude up to 1000 m. Insulation is class F with a class B temperature rise (80 K) and VPI impregnation, duty S1, service factor 1.0. Enclosure IP55, terminal boxes IP66, impact resistance 20 J, mounting B3. The rotor has an aluminium or copper cage, with rolling or sleeve bearings, and vibration meets class A according to IEC 60034-14. The basic package includes Pt-100 sensors for the windings and bearings, a 200–240 V heater, double grounding, tropical treatment and painting 214P (C4) in RAL 5009.
Options include groups IIC, IIB/IIIC, IIC/IIIC, Class I/II Division 1, the mining version of group I category M2, temperature class T5, temperatures down to −55 °C, and up to +80 °C for IIB. Terminal boxes can have a higher degree of protection and a withstand of 50 kA for 1 s; an accessible neutral, CTs, surge arresters and capacitors, and partial discharge monitoring are available. When fed from a VFD the motor works without a combined type test and keeps class T4. For weak grids there is a variant with a starting current of 4.5 times the rated current.
The sound pressure level of 50 Hz machines is 80 dB(A) up to frame size 400 and 85 dB(A) for larger frame sizes. For vertical mounting the manufacturer calculates the natural frequency and the position of the center of mass according to NEMA MG1. The motors are certified to ATEX, IECEx, UL and CSA, hold INMETRO, NEPSI, PESO, SONCAP, EAC Ex, SASO and other certificates, and meet the requirements of IACS classification societies.
