Vertical high-voltage induction motors 3–13.8 kV, 160–10 000 kW (general industrial and flameproof)
Vertical high-voltage induction motors for 3–13.8 kV cover 160–10 000 kW in two series, general industrial and flameproof. The motor axis is vertical, above the driven machine. The main loads are vertical pumps, mixers, conveyors, crushers and winches.

Description
The first series is intended for general industrial sites and has heat exchangers. Rating is 500–10 000 kW, speed 280–3600 rpm, voltage 3000–13 800 V. Cooling follows schemes IC611, IC616 and IC666 with an air-to-air cooler or IC81W and IC86W with an air-to-water cooler. For hazardous zones there are Ex ec, Ex pxb and Ex pzc. The shaft runs on sleeve or rolling bearings designed to take axial loads. The heat exchanger sits on the frame, so the machine does not need a separate air duct from the room.
The second series is flameproof, with protection types Ex db and Ex tb. Its parameters are 160–4500 kW, 500–3000 rpm, 3000–13 800 V, cooling IC411, IC416, IC511 or IC516. According to the manufacturer's description, the bearing assembly of this series is not designed for additional axial loads from the driven machine, and this is taken into account when choosing the pump and its supports. The manufacturer notes a reduced bearing temperature, low noise and vibration.
The mounting arrangement is IMV1, flange down. Both series run from a 50/60 Hz network or from a frequency converter, have a rotor with a cast aluminium cage or copper bars and degree of protection up to IP66. The motors comply with GB, IEC, NEMA, BS, API and EN and are certified to IECEx, ATEX, CCC, MA, CSA, UL. Standard installation altitude is up to 1000 m, and up to 5000 m above sea level on request. Copper rotor bars are appropriate for frequent starts of large pumps, while a cast aluminium cage covers typical duties.
Fields of application are the oil, gas and chemical industries, coal, metallurgy, power plants, ports and mechanical engineering. At power facilities these are vertical circulation and condensate pumps, pumps of water intakes and water supply systems, and pumping stations. A vertical arrangement reduces the footprint of the pump unit and is convenient where the pump stands in a well or above a suction chamber.
The item can replace vertical high-voltage motors of pumps at power plants and water utilities. During replacement the mounting flange, direction and speed of rotation, and the axial load from the pump are checked, because the choice of series and bearing assembly depends on it.

Questions and answers
What power do the vertical motors have?
The general industrial series covers 500–10 000 kW, the flameproof series 160–4500 kW. The voltage of both series is 3000–13 800 V.
Do these motors take the axial load of the pump?
The general industrial series has sleeve or rolling bearings designed for axial loads. For the flameproof series the manufacturer specifies a version that does not take additional axial forces from the driven machine.
Which explosion-protection versions are available?
Ex ec, Ex pxb and Ex pzc for the series with heat exchangers, Ex db and Ex tb for the flameproof series. Degree of protection is up to IP66.
