TEFC, 840 and 841 are totally enclosed fan-cooled medium-voltage induction motors for wet, dusty and aggressive environments. The 841 series complies with IEEE Std 841 and is certified for Class I, Division 2 and Zone 2 areas. The motors drive pumps, compressors, fans and conveyors at refineries and in chemical, mining and pulp and paper plants.

Description
TEFC General Purpose has an IP54 degree of protection and is intended for the oil and gas, mining and chemical industries. The frame and bearing brackets are heavy cast iron, the bearings are oversized, 300 series, the fasteners and coatings are corrosion-resistant, and a drain and breather are provided. C-Face and D-Flange mountings are interchangeable for 2, 4 and 6 poles. The stator core withstands 1,000 °F, so after a failure the stator can more often be repaired.
Totally Enclosed 840 is intended for frame sizes beyond the scope of the 841 standard, where Petrochem Severe Duty features are needed. The motor has IP55, non-contact labyrinth seals on both bearings, sealed main and auxiliary terminal boxes, and corrosion-resistant drain and breather. The insulation passes an immersion test per NEMA MG 1, foot flatness is 0.005 in, and grounding terminals are provided on the frame and in the box. Acceptance tests are performed per IEEE 112.
Totally Enclosed 841 complies with and exceeds the requirements of IEEE Std 841. The motor has IP55, NEMA Premium efficiency and certification for hazardous areas Class I, Division 2 and Zone 2 when supplied from the mains or from a frequency converter. Noise is 90 dBA at a distance of 1 m, vibration does not exceed 0.08 in/s for 2–6 poles and 0.06 in/s for 8 poles. The series is installed on critical drives in the oil and gas, mining and pulp and paper industries. According to the EQP Global brochure for the mining industry, 841 covers 100–400 hp at 2,300/4,000 V, and EQP Global 840 covers 200–500 hp at 4,000 V.
The manufacturer's range of high-voltage motors covers 100–50,000 hp at 2,300–13,800 V, and standard catalog versions are rated for 2,300/4,000, 2,300/4,160 and 4,000 V and 720–3,600 rpm. Insulation per NEMA MG1 part 31 is designed for supply from VFDs, including the T300MV2. Rotors are cast aluminium or with copper bars. The manufacturer, a Houston (USA) company, belongs to the Motors & Drives division of its group and tests the motors in in-house laboratories accredited to ISO 9001:2015, NVLAP and UL. Service centres operate in Houston and Edmonton.
The motors drive pumps, compressors, fans and conveyors at refineries and in chemical, mineral processing and pulp and paper plants, including in Class 2 hazardous areas.
