TEAAC / TEWAC totally enclosed medium voltage motors with air-to-air and water-to-air cooling
TEAAC and TEWAC totally enclosed medium voltage motors with built-in heat exchangers for high-power drives in wet, dirty, dusty or aggressive environments. The internal air of the machine does not contact the outside air, with the TEAAC cooled by air through a heat exchanger and the TEWAC by water or a water-glycol mixture. The degree of protection is IP54 for the TEAAC and IP55 for the TEWAC.

Description
In the TEAAC (Totally Enclosed Air-to-Air Cooled) the heated internal air circulates through a built-in air-to-air heat exchanger and gives up heat to the outside air without contact with it. The motor holds its operating temperature, while dust and moisture do not get inside, so maintenance is needed less often. The frame is cast iron, and the carbon steel heat exchanger tubes are corrosion resistant. The fan is designed with a three-dimensional flow model for maximum airflow with lower friction losses, and the frame is designed by the finite element method.
The TEAAC has degree of protection IP54 and can be built to API 541 and API 547 for the oil, chemical and gas industries. According to the brochure for the mining industry, TEAAC motors are made for 450–3 000 hp at 4 000 V. For temperature monitoring, 2 Pt100 sensors per phase are fitted, and 120 V space heating is provided.
In the TEWAC (Totally Enclosed Water-to-Air Cooled) the internal air is cooled by water or a water-glycol mixture in a built-in cooler. Water heat removal gives more power in a smaller and lighter frame, without large radiators and powerful room ventilation. At site the TEWAC needs a source of cooling water or a glycol loop. The IP55 enclosure protects the machine from moisture, dust and contamination. The company designs and manufactures the motors itself, so they are adapted to the requirements of a specific application.
The motors are installed on pumps and compressors in the oil and gas industry, marine and offshore installations, chemical plants, mills and fans at mining and processing plants, and in rooms with limited ventilation. The company's whole high-voltage motor line covers 100–50 000 hp at voltages of 2 300–13 800 V. Standard catalog versions have voltages of 2 300/4 000, 2 300/4 160 and 4 000 V and speeds of 720–3 600 rpm.
The insulation meets NEMA MG1 part 31 for operation from variable frequency drives, including the T300MV2. Rotors are made of cast aluminum or with copper bars. It is made by the Motors & Drives division of the company's Houston (USA) subsidiary, its own laboratories are accredited to ISO 9001:2015, NVLAP and UL, and service centers operate in Houston and Edmonton.
