Description

Horizontal motors of the 21-L series are three-phase high-voltage squirrel-cage induction motors for high power ratings. According to the manufacturer, the series combines more than a century of electrical machine building experience of its parent companies with new design technologies and has a higher efficiency than earlier developments. They are used for pumps, fans, compressors, mills, conveyors and other high-power drives in all industries, including with speed control.

Power is 450–16,500 kW at 50 Hz and 450–18,500 kW (600–25,000 HP) at 60 Hz, voltage is from 2300 to 13,800 V, the number of poles is from 2 to 24, and the shaft height is from 450 to 900 mm. Insulation is class F with a class B temperature rise. The motors are built to IEC, NEMA, BS, AS and other standards.

Drip-proof motors (ODP/IP22) and weatherproof ones to NEMA WP1 and WP2/IP24 are produced, where the air path with turns lowers the air velocity below 3 m/s and traps water and dust. The totally enclosed version with an air-to-air cooler (TEAAC/IP55) suits environments with aggressive gases, and with an air-to-water cooler (TEWAC/IP55) it suits low-noise operation and removal of heat from the room. There is also a version with independent pipe ventilation (TESV/PIPE). Cooling methods IC01, IC61 and IC81W are realized by replacing the upper air cover on a common frame.

The frame is welded steel of increased rigidity, designed using frequency analysis. The stator is made of high-quality low-loss electrical steel and is easily removed from the frame, and the rotor cage is welded copper. The VPI insulation system is designed for operation from a frequency converter and for impulse overvoltages. Bearings are either sleeve bearings with oil lubrication or rolling bearings with an extended regreasing interval. A bearing current insulator on the non-drive end is standard for frame sizes from 450 and for all machines with sleeve bearings. The main NEMA Type II terminal box can be rotated through 90°, and surge limiters and differential current transformers can be installed.
