KE2 — high-voltage increased safety motors Ex eb 3–11 kV, 160–1330 kW

KE2 is a series of high-voltage three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors in a ribbed cast-iron frame for explosive areas. Output 160–1330 kW, voltage 3–11 kV with supply from the mains or a frequency converter. The increased safety "e" design is intended for gas zone 1.

Description

KE2 motors are built by the plant in Mönchengladbach (Germany), which has been part of an international industrial group since 2011. The type of explosion protection is increased safety "e". The marking II 2 G Ex eb IIC T3/T4 Gb permits use in gas zone 1 for all gas subgroups up to IIC at temperature classes T3 or T4. The increased safety design excludes sparks and impermissible temperatures in normal operation.

Shaft height 315–500 mm, number of poles 2–16, rolling or sleeve bearings. Mounting arrangements B3, B5, B35 and V1. Degree of protection IP55, IP56 or IP65. Cooling IC411 means a ribbed frame with self-ventilation. Insulation is class 155 (F) with temperature rise to class 130 (B). The output of the series is 160–1330 kW, voltage 3–11 kV.

The motors are certified to ATEX, and IECEx certification is possible. The production holds the ATEX quality assurance notification (QAN) and the IECEx QAR report. Increased safety motors are widely used in the oil and gas, chemical and petrochemical industries for pumps, compressors, fans and agitators.

The manufacturer specialises in motors for safe and explosive areas, has built electrical machines since 1882, and its service department provides explosion protection training. The series is considered as a replacement for explosion-proof high-voltage 6 kV motors of the ВАО, 2АЗМВ1 series; selection by purpose and main parameters is finally agreed with the manager. In the same range for explosive areas there are the KD2 series with flameproof enclosure and the KR series with tubular cooling.

The mounting arrangements B3, B5, B35 and V1 cover a horizontal foot-mounted motor, a flange-mounted one, one with feet and a flange, and a vertical one. For comparison, the KD2 series in flameproof design Ex db has a shaft height of 355–500 mm, and the KA5 series for safe areas 400–560 mm. The KE2 series is intended specifically for zone 1, whereas KA5 is not used in explosive areas. When selecting, the output, voltage, number of poles, temperature class T3 or T4 and mounting arrangement must be specified.
