KD2 in the high-voltage version is a series of three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors in a flameproof enclosure type d for gas Zone 1. Power 180–1320 kW, voltage 3–11 kV, shaft height 355–500 mm. The enclosure withstands an internal explosion and does not transmit it to the surrounding atmosphere.

Description
KD2 motors are built at a plant in Mönchengladbach (Germany), which has belonged to an international industrial group since 2011. Marking II 2 G Ex db IIB or IIC T3/T4 Gb, or Ex db eb with an increased-safety terminal box. The flameproof enclosure is designed for an explosion inside and does not let it out.
Series parameters. Shaft height 355–500 mm, power 180–1320 kW, voltage 3–11 kV when supplied from the mains or a frequency converter, number of poles 2–16. Rolling or sleeve bearings, mounting arrangements B3, B35 and V1. Ribbed cast-iron frame with IC411 cooling. Degree of protection IP55, IP56 or IP65. Insulation class 155 (F) with use at class 130 (B).
The motors are ATEX certified, IECEx is possible. High-voltage flameproof motors are used in the oil and gas, chemical and petrochemical industries, at gas compressor and pump stations where type d protection is required in Zone 1. Under the same KD1/KD2 designation the manufacturer also makes low-voltage flameproof motors of 0.12–800 kW, which are listed as a separate item.
Among the manufacturer's machines for explosive atmospheres, its website lists, for example, the KR6031G-DC04 motor, 1000 kW, 6600 V, 1489 rpm, marked Ex db IIB T4 Gb. The series is considered an alternative to high-voltage flameproof motors of the ВАО2, 2В and АВ series; the final selection by application and parameters is agreed with a manager.
In the Ex db eb version the motor stays in a type d enclosure, while the terminal box has increased protection. For comparison, the KE2 increased-safety Ex eb series has a shaft height of 315–500 mm, and the KR series with IC511 tube cooling and a steel frame covers machines of much higher power. When selecting, specify the power, voltage, number of poles, gas group IIB or IIC and mounting arrangement. Mounting arrangements B3, B35 and V1 mean a horizontal foot-mounted motor, a foot-mounted motor with a flange, and a vertical motor.
