Description

The KB/KF series is built in Mönchengladbach (Germany) and is intended for safe areas where explosion protection is not required. The plant has belonged to an international group since 2011. The design is open, degree of protection IP23. With IC01 ventilation the air passes directly through the machine. This scheme gives the highest power per unit of mass and size.

The frame size is set by shaft height, number of poles and power, while open IC01 ventilation or a weather-protected version is chosen by the place of installation. Series parameters are as follows. Shaft height 400–1000 mm, power 180–15 000 kW, voltage 3–15 kV when supplied from the mains or a frequency converter, number of poles 2–24. Steel frame, rolling or sleeve bearings. Mounting arrangements B3, B35 and V1. Insulation is class 155 (F) with use at class 130 (B), CE marking.

For outdoor installation, weather-protected versions WP I and WP II (Weather Protected) under the NEMA classification are provided. They are used at open sites of oil and gas and petrochemical facilities.

The open version is used where the ambient air is clean enough. Typical consumers are water supply and power plant pumps, compressors, fans and turbocompressors. Supply from a frequency converter is permitted, so the speed can be controlled.

For open motors the manufacturer issues a separate operating manual for IP23 machines. The series list gives only the CE marking, while explosion-protected versions with ATEX (IECEx) are found in the KU and KV series. For KU the protection type II 3G Ex ec IIC T3/T4 Gc is provided, as well as II 2G Ex eb IIC T3/T4 Gb and II 2G Ex pxb IIC T3/T4 Gb. All three series of the program have insulation of class 155 (F) with use at class 130 (B). The series belongs to a modular program together with two others. KV is cooled by the IC611 air-to-air scheme, has degree of protection IP55 or IP65 and a voltage of 2.3–15 kV. KU is cooled by the IC81W air-to-water scheme and also has IP55 or IP65. The open KB/KF series covers shaft heights of 400–1000 mm.
