Description

The motor is designed for supply with the non-sinusoidal voltage of a converter. It has a wide speed control range and operates at full torque at low speeds. Such a machine goes into drives of rolling mills, conveyors, mills, and pumps and fans with variable throughput, as well as into test stands. Parameters: output up to 12 MW, voltage up to 6.9 kV, speed 0–2500 rpm.

Like the whole programme of the manufacturer, the motors are made individually. Horizontal or vertical versions, rolling or sliding bearings, any cooling method and protection degree IP21–IP66 are possible. Special accessories are added at the request of the project. The rotor is chosen as cylindrical, salient-pole, squirrel-cage or with permanent magnets. Low-voltage versions up to 1000 V are made per project.

An example of supply is a low-speed motor for a heavy mining drive in Kazakhstan. Output 2380 kW, voltage 1000 V, speed 55 rpm, weight about 50 t, overload capability 200 % for 20 seconds. The machine was designed, manufactured and tested entirely at the manufacturer's plant. The example shows that the manufacturer undertakes gearless and low-speed drives.

The series can be considered as a replacement for DC motors when modernising rolling mill and hoisting machine drives. It is also an analogue of controlled high-voltage induction motors for frequency drives. Selection starts with the speed range, the torque at low speeds and the converter parameters, because the winding design and cooling depend on them.

The converter and the motor are selected together. Non-sinusoidal voltage creates additional heating and stress on the insulation, so the winding is calculated for the specific converter type. At low speeds a shaft-mounted fan cools less effectively, and then independent cooling is used. For a gearless drive the dimensions and weight are important, because a low-speed machine with high torque is large. A converter drive is convenient where the process requires smooth acceleration and precise speed holding. Data on the load, the speed range and the starting conditions are needed already at the request stage, before the machine is ordered.
