Description
The synchronous motors are designed for ratings of 4000–50,000 kW. They are used in drives with high requirements for energy efficiency, speed accuracy and reactive power compensation. The motors are designed individually, like the induction machines from the same plant in Bremen. Voltage reaches 15 kV for grid supply and 10 kV for operation from a frequency converter, and power from a converter reaches 50 MW with adjustable speed. All standard designs, degrees of protection and cooling methods are available.
The excitation system is brushless as standard; a brush version is built at the customer's request. The exciter is selected for the motor and, on request, supplied together with motor protection. This gives high drive dynamics and a long service life. The exciter machines are easily accessible and replaceable, so downtime after damage is short. The design takes into account the permissible starting current and possible voltage dips in the grid; starting from the grid is done through a reactor or a starting transformer.
Motors with shaft heights up to 900 mm are built in a tubular frame. For hazardous areas zones 1 and 2, Ex px, Ex pz, Ex e and Ex nA versions according to ATEX 2014/34/EU and IECEx are provided. The bearing unit is designed for axial or radial additional loads, including for marine motors with roll and pitch inclinations, as required by classification societies. The design is verified by the finite element method (FEM).
Examples of deliveries show the range of applications. Two propulsion motors of 21,000 kW each, 150 rpm, weighing 185 t for a cruise ship; an 11,500 kW, 1500 rpm motor for a reservoir pressure maintenance compressor with a cooler designed for sandstorms. A 3050 kW, 333 rpm motor for a refinery reciprocating compressor. A 10,000 kW main motor, 0–70/116 rpm, weighing 190 t is intended for a reversing rolling mill stand. Two motors of 5000 kW each, 11 rpm, weighing 532 t operate on the wind turbine nacelle test bench of the Fraunhofer IWES institute.
