HKH — high-voltage water-jacketed induction motors 3.3–10 kV up to 3 MW
HKH is a series of high-voltage squirrel-cage induction motors with a water-jacketed stator, up to 3000 kW at voltage 3.3–10 kV. Water circulates through channels of the welded frame and takes heat directly from the stator core. The motors work in mining machines, plastic extruders, on test stands and pumps.

Description
The manufacturer is a pioneer of water-cooled motors and has made them since 1973. The HKH frame is welded, and the water channels in it act as a heat exchanger, so the machine has no separate coolers. From a frequency converter HKH runs in the range from 0 to 2000 rpm. IEC frame sizes are 355–560, the standard mounting arrangement is IM B3 (IM1001), special ones the plant makes on request. Degree of protection up to IP65, insulation and temperature rise class F, noise below 80 dB(A).
The water jacket makes the motor compact and gives high power density. There is no external fan, so noise is lower and the motor hardly heats the room air. The closed enclosure keeps dust and moisture out. Such machines are chosen where space is limited and the environment is polluted or aggressive, as in a mine. The package includes common temperature and vibration sensors, various encoders and radial shaft seals.
The manufacturer classes the HKH series among motors for mining machines. For hazardous areas of underground workings it supplies water-cooled low- and high-voltage motors rated from 36 kW to 3 MW. They drive shearers, tunnelling drilling rigs, scraper conveyors and crushers. Underground, water cooling is especially appropriate, because the motor gives almost no heat to the confined volume of the working. The company holds ATEX, IECEx, MSHA, MA (China) and ANZEx certificates, so it can supply mining motors to markets with different approval systems.
The motors are designed to IEC 60034 or NEMA MG1. Outside mines, HKH is installed on high-power plastic extruders, test stands and pumps. On a test stand a compact motor with stable temperature and low noise is easier to place next to the unit under test. The series is suitable as an alternative to high-voltage water-cooled mine and ore-mining motors. Manufacture and testing take place at the manufacturer's plant in Preding (Austria).
For selection, state the power, voltage, speed range, mounting arrangement, connection dimensions and parameters of the water that can be supplied to the jacket. For a mine, add the explosion protection type and the certificate required at the place of operation. For a test stand or extruder, the operating speed range from the VFD is important.
