21-L vertical high-voltage induction motor, 300–6300 kW, up to 13.8 kV
Vertical motors of the 21-L series are three-phase high-voltage squirrel-cage induction motors rated from 300 to 6300 kW for voltages up to 13.8 kV. The enclosure comes in four versions, from drip-proof to totally enclosed with an air-to-water cooler. Used for vertical water supply pumps, power plants, irrigation and oil systems.

Description
Motors of the 21-L series are intended for vertical pumps and other machines with a vertical shaft. Power is from 300 to 6300 kW (400–8500 hp), voltage up to 13.8 kV, frames from 150-50M to 190-62L. Output power depends on the number of poles, and typical diagrams are given for 8–14 poles at 6.6 kV / 60 Hz and 6.0 kV / 50 Hz. Supply is possible from the grid or from a frequency converter. The modular design makes it possible to choose the version for site conditions without changing the motor itself.
The series is built on a modular principle, so the enclosure type is easily changed by replacing the cover. The drip-proof DP (IP22, IC01) suits well-ventilated rooms. The weather-protected NEMA WP1 and WP2 (IP24W, IC01) is intended for outdoor installation, and its air path has three turns. The totally enclosed air-to-air cooled TEAAC/CACA (IP44, IC611) is used in environments with aggressive gases. The totally enclosed air-to-water cooled TEWAC/CACW (IP44, IC81W) is chosen for low-noise operation and heat removal.
Thrust bearings are selected for the axial load of the pump. For small and large axial forces, angular contact ball, spherical roller or segmented (tilting pad) bearings are provided. The copper rotor bars are profiled for good starting characteristics and mechanical strength. A bearing current insulator on the non-drive end is part of the standard scope. It protects the bearings from the currents that occur in operation with a converter.
The specially shaped frame is calculated by the finite element method, which increases rigidity and reduces vibration. The stator core is made of high-quality low-loss steel. VPI winding insulation firmly fixes the end turns and withstands impulse overvoltages, and the motors are compatible with frequency converters. The main terminal box rotates through 90°, and the auxiliary boxes are modular.
According to the manufacturer, the series has increased efficiency and power factor, good starting characteristics, a light supporting structure, low noise and vibration, and extended lubrication intervals. The motors operate on vertical water supply and wastewater pumps, circulating and condensate pumps of power plants, and pumps of irrigation and oil systems.
