Description
The 21-H series covers three-phase high-voltage squirrel-cage induction motors rated up to 8000 kW (10,708 hp) for all industries. The motors have high efficiency and a low noise level and are compatible with frequency converters. The series is designed for all industries, so it suits drives of various purposes. The motors are used both in fixed-speed drives with direct starting and in variable-speed electric drives with TMdrive medium-voltage frequency converters.
The frame is a welded steel fabrication of modular, robust design. The rotor has a welded cage of copper bars, and the core is made of C5 electrical steel. The design of the rotor and core is linked to the efficiency, noise and starting figures declared by the manufacturer. Modularity means that the motor is easily converted between enclosure types. The weather-protected NEMA WP2, the totally enclosed air-to-air cooled (TEAAC) and the totally enclosed air-to-water cooled (TEWAC) versions are available, and these versions are interchangeable. The windings are insulated with an improved vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI) system, which increases resistance to impulse overvoltages. Compactness means less floor space for the motor and a lighter foundation, and low operating costs are linked to extended lubrication intervals.
During development, detailed calculations of the electromagnetic field, heat transfer and improved ventilation were carried out, and new methods of making the core and frame were applied. According to the manufacturer, this gives increased efficiency and power factor, good starting characteristics, compactness with less floor space and a lighter foundation, reduced noise and vibration, high reliability, low operating costs and extended bearing lubrication intervals. The motors are designed to international standards. The modular frame gives one more practical advantage: if needed, the cooling is changed without replacing the motor itself with another series.
Voltage, number of poles and degree of protection are not specified in the materials provided and are agreed for the particular drive. The motors work in pumps, fans, compressors, blowers, mills and conveyors. The industries served are oil and gas, chemical, metallurgical, mining and cement, water supply facilities and power plants.

Questions and answers
What is the maximum power of the 21-H series motors?
Up to 8000 kW (10,708 hp), three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors.
Which enclosure types are available?
Weather-protected NEMA WP2, totally enclosed air-to-air cooled (TEAAC) and totally enclosed air-to-water cooled (TEWAC). The versions are interchangeable thanks to the modular frame.
Can the motor be supplied from a frequency converter?
Yes, the series is compatible with frequency converters, and windings with VPI insulation resist impulse overvoltages. Direct starting from the grid is also possible.
