Description
SMO launchers are used on pipeline systems for oil, gas and flammable liquids. Cleaning and in-line inspection with pigs are carried out regularly on many pipelines. The pig is introduced into the pipeline through the launcher, an important element of the pig launching station. The launchers are supplied as complete systems with a proven manual quick-action bayonet closure.
The construction is welded steel, with a flanged or weld-end connection to the pipeline. The launcher has a pig passage indicator that registers the pig leaving into the pipeline, corrosion protection is applied on request, and the surfaces can be sand-blasted. The bayonet closure cover ring has a nitrile rubber lip seal, and the cover has locking devices on the bayonet teeth. The safety device consists of a bayonet interlock and a pressure indicator that warns of the danger of opening the launcher under pressure. A device for turning the cover with locking and a spare lip seal are provided.
The launchers are made to the customer's drawing, and if there is no drawing, to the manufacturer's standard sketch. Materials are selected according to a standard, a specification or customer requirements. Nominal pressures are PN 16, 25, 40, 70, 100 and 150, classes from CLASS 150 to 900, sizes up to DN 1600. The operating temperature of the standard version is from −10 to +50 °C, of the special version from −40 to +150 °C. The launchers are installed underground or above ground, and the choice of temperature version depends on the medium and operating conditions.
Manufacture and inspection follow DIN EN 12007-3, DVGW worksheet G 463, the TRFL technical rules for pipelines, the ASME code and other international standards and specifications. Supply is with EN 10204 3.1 and 3.2 certificates, and the brochure also states conformity with the pressure equipment directive. The launchers are used on trunk gas and oil pipelines, branch lines and at tie-in points of compressor stations and underground gas storage facilities, where periodic cleaning of the pipeline bore and in-line inspection are required. In the manufacturer's range the launchers are complemented by tees with guide bars for pig passage, manifolds and full-bore ball valves.
