Description
Besides pipes, the manufacturer supplies pipeline components for gas pipeline projects, made from its own large-diameter pipes. It takes on the technical, logistical and organisational issues so that a complex pipeline project is carried out without disruption.
The bends are made by hot induction bending. The technology is developed together with partners in metallurgy and a research institute. The bending shop is located directly on the Mülheim plant site and has been turning pipes into bends for decades. Induction heating of a narrow zone of the pipe followed by bending makes it possible to form pipes with a wall up to 100 mm thick accurately, and the method is flexible with regard to radii and angles. Because the bend is made from the same pipe as the line section, the diameter, strength grade and metal properties match. The manufacturer advises the customer and supports the project at all stages of manufacture.
For offshore gas pipelines, buckle arrestors are supplied, which are sections of pipeline with a much greater wall thickness that prevent a buckle or fold from propagating during laying at great depth. They are made directly at the plant or together with long-standing partners. For offshore projects, sacrificial anodes are also supplied, which give active electrochemical corrosion protection and complement the passive action of the coatings.
The parent pipes are longitudinally welded SAWL by the UOE process with an outside diameter of 610–1524 mm and a wall of up to 52 mm, made to API 5L, EN, ISO or customer requirements. Welding production is certified to ISO 3834-2, factory production control of steel structures to EN 1090-1, and the company is a manufacturer under AD 2000-HP0 and directive 2014/68/EU. The manufacturing site has been assessed by TÜV NORD against the requirements of directive 2014/68/EU, and the scope of approval covers the manufacture of vessels (AD 2000 HP 0) and piping (AD 2000 HP 100 R, EN 13480).
The bends are used at changes of direction on gas trunk pipelines, at crossings of obstacles, in the piping of compressor stations and gas distribution stations, and on offshore gas pipelines. Bends and buckle arrestors are supplied together with the pipes within one project.
