Description
Starbox is a family of telemetry controllers (RTU) for remote control of gas stations in harsh environments, including gas distribution stations, pressure reduction stations and gas metering stations in distribution networks. The controllers combine the functions of a data logger, a programmable logic controller and a communication gateway. The range also includes Starbox De Visu for pressure reduction and metering stations.
Starbox LX2 runs on an embedded Linux OS, has multimedia functions and multichannel communication with dispatch centers. It has 8 analog inputs with 16-bit resolution (4–20 mA or 0–10 V, 2500 V galvanic isolation on request), 16 digital inputs for status or pulse counting, 1 analog and 8 digital outputs. Local interfaces are Ethernet (second port optional), two RS485/422, RS232, a configurable RS232/RS485 and USB. The operating temperature is from −20 to +80 °C and the dimensions are 165×150×55 mm. Current station data is viewed and the device is configured through a web browser.
Starbox Smart is intended for stations with a small number of monitored variables. It has 8 analog inputs of 12 bit, 3 digital inputs with ±15 kV electrostatic protection, 2 digital outputs, Ethernet, RS485, RS232 and a configurable RS485/422. A 7″ color touch display can be fitted as an option. The temperature range is from −20 to +70 °C and the dimensions are 125×85×40 mm. The controller carries CE marking and complies with directive 2014/30/EU on electromagnetic compatibility.
Both controllers can be expanded with modular I/O systems to 320 DI, 128 DO, 64 AI and 32 AO. They support Modbus RTU/TCP Master/Slave, IEC 62056-2, IEC 60870-5-101 and -104, Siemens S7, and connection through an OPC server. The built-in PLC complies with IEC 61131-3, and there is a web server and alarm delivery by SMS and e-mail. Archiving runs on a base cycle of 1 s, with up to 10 000 variables and up to 6 million samples, while in the PDF for Smart the base archiving time is given as 5 min to 1 h. Communication with the center goes through an external modem or router (GSM/GPRS, 4G/5G) or a wired network. The supply is 10–30 V DC at a consumption of 1–4 W, and the housing is IP20.
The FIO 3.0 system for remote control of pressure reduction stations is built on Starbox LX2, in DL (two lines) and QL (four lines) versions. It measures flow indirectly without a separate flow meter, profiles the network pressure, dynamically adjusts the outlet pressure according to consumption and allows set points to be changed remotely. In emergency conditions the SSV closes automatically or the pressure is reduced. Filters, access and seismic effects are also monitored.
