Description
The protection functions selectively protect overhead line feeders with single- and double-ended supply. The device also works as protection of a traction switchgear, as upstream protection of enclosed switching stations or as backup protection of transformers, busbars, overhead line feeders and overhead lines in traction installations. The devices are qualified for AC overhead line systems in single-wire and two-wire design, switchgear supplying the overhead line, traction transformers and traction power transmission lines, and also for connecting third-party non-traction consumers to the traction network.
The fastest stages are designed for the high short-circuit currents of the traction network. The instantaneous overcurrent function, the frame fault protection (Gerüstschlussschutz) and the tank protection of insulated transformers or reactors have a tripping time of no more than 2.5 ms in combination with electronically boosted command outputs. The device can control a maximum of 64 potential-free command outputs at the same time. Protection, measurement and control of the feeder circuit breaker are combined in one device, so a separate bay controller on the overhead line feeder is not mandatory.
The multifunction SPRECON-E-P RS..6-2 devices are built on a modular principle with standardized hardware modules. Protection functions are added to the basic function set in extension packages. Package 1 contains non-directional traction overcurrent protection, package 2 the directional one. System protection functions of some packages are implemented in the firmware as independent functions, without separate hardware modules. The basis is the same proven concept of the SPRECON-E platform as in the manufacturer's network protection devices.
The remote control panel has a high-resolution color display, from which the required operating actions and the complete protection setting on site are performed. The process and device status are displayed in color on a large LCD, and there are also freely programmable LEDs and separate navigation keys for moving between pages and submenus. Part of the control is parameterized in SPRECON-E Designer by drag & drop, and the built-in Display Editor creates the panel screens. The manufacturer publishes the technical document Multifunctional Traction Overcurrent Protection (SPRECON-E-P RS..6).
Applications are traction substations and sectioning posts of 16.7 Hz AC railways (networks of Austria, Germany and Switzerland) and of 25/50 Hz railways, overhead line feeders, and connection of non-traction consumers. These devices are part of the equipment of the SPREPOWER traction switchgear from the same manufacturer.
