SPRECON-E-P DL6 — longitudinal differential protection of cables and overhead lines
SPRECON-E-P DL6 is a series of longitudinal differential protection devices for cable and overhead lines. The devices protect lines with two ends and single-sided or multi-sided infeed in all common neutral treatments at MV and HV levels. Both versions of the series, DL..6-1 and DL..6-2, have a single firmware and the same set of protection functions.

Description
The main function is phase current differential protection with current restraint and a three-slope characteristic, optionally four-slope. It is supplemented by earth fault differential protection with a characteristic restraint, amplitude and vector group matching, and zero sequence component elimination. Blocking by inrush current and by overexcitation is needed when a transformer falls within the protection zone of the line differential. Additional functions bring the set to typical line protection concepts. The transformer in the line zone is then protected by the same device.
The devices are built on standardized hardware modules. SPRECON-E-P DL..6-1 is a protection device with a control function and a fixed set of inputs and outputs. Besides protection and measurements it controls up to 4 switching devices. SPRECON-E-P DL..6-2 is a modular combined protection and control device, which can be freely extended and can take over all tasks of the secondary systems, that is, protection, measurement, control, regulation and monitoring. The difference between the versions lies precisely in application flexibility. The firmware and the set of protection functions are the same in both, so protection settings do not depend on the selected version.
All functions are set individually. The protection configuration and the parameterization of the control part are separated, and unneeded functions are hidden from the menu. The control part is built on a database with typification by identical bay types, which considerably simplifies engineering of large systems. The logic and panel screens are configured in SPRECON-E Designer by drag & drop with the built-in DISPLAY EDITOR. The devices work with control systems of different manufacturers over standard and proprietary protocols.
The operator works with a detachable panel on which a large full-graphic LCD shows process information and device data. For signaling there are freely programmable LEDs, and separate navigation keys lead through display pages and submenus. All operating actions are performed from the panel, and full protection setting is possible on site without the SPRECON-E COMM-3 program.
Applications are cable lines of urban networks and industrial sites, short 20–110 kV overhead lines, and lines for feeding out power from renewable sources. The differential principle disconnects a fault inside the protected section without coordinating time delays with neighboring protections.
