SPRECON-E-P DD6 — distance protection of MV/HV overhead lines and cables
SPRECON-E-P DD6 is a series of distance protection devices, the main protection of overhead lines and cables of medium and high voltage. The devices work in all common networks and in all neutral treatments, typically on 20–110 kV lines. As backup protection they also cover transformers and busbars.

Description
Several types of start are built in, with simultaneous impedance supervision of six measuring loops. In addition to starting by current and by minimum impedance, starting by current with voltage supervision is provided, so selectivity and sensitivity are maintained under any load. Circuit breaker control is three-pole, and tripping and closing are supplemented by three-phase auto-reclosing.
New functions are added to the proven protection and measurement algorithms. These are voltage and frequency protections, handling of intermittent earth faults and Q-U< protection. Accuracy is improved, there are many alarm and trip stages, and settings are grouped into 4 switchable sets. There are tools for testing and commissioning, selection of minimum relay hold time, combinational and sequential logic without programming (virtual binary inputs) and logic links for output relays. Circuit breaker control is optional, so the same device is used both as stand-alone protection and as protection with bay control.
The design is modular. A light flat detachable operator panel is built into the bay door, and a large full-graphic LCD clearly shows measurements and simplifies control and analysis. All operating actions and full protection setting on site are performed from the panel without the SPRECON-E COMM-3 program. The narrow housing of the protection device saves space in the relay compartment, and a layout in a medium housing is also available.
Alongside the protection-only SPRECON-E-P D..6-1 devices, combined DD..6-2 devices are produced, which protect equipment and at the same time perform control and monitoring. They are extended with modules for measuring transformers, analog inputs and outputs 0–20 mA, binary inputs and outputs, and a redundant power supply unit. The housings are medium and large, for 10 and 21 slots. The protection and control parts are strictly separated, with separate data models, firmware, parameterization and passwords. Therefore updating parameters or firmware of the control part does not require re-testing of the protection or switching off the bay.
The control part is built on a database with typification by identical bay types, which simplifies engineering of large systems. Standard and proprietary protocols are supported for communication with control systems of different manufacturers. Applications are 20–110 kV lines of distribution and transmission networks, cable networks of cities, and backup protection of transformers and busbars.
