SPRECON-E-P D..6-2 is a series of combined protection and control devices for switchgear and power plants. The devices protect electrical equipment and at the same time control and monitor the power installation, that is, they cover the entire set of secondary systems of a bay. The series is the basis of the SPRECON-E-P protection family and also works as a station controller.

Description
The protection and control parts in the devices of the series are consistently separated. Together with proven digital signal processing algorithms this excludes mutual influence of the functional parts inside the device, and each of them performs its tasks practically independently. Protection and control firmware is updated separately. The separation also extends to data models, parameterization and passwords, so updating parameters or firmware of the control part does not require re-testing of the protection or switching off the bay. It is on this separation that the manufacturer builds the safety and availability of the series.
The devices are used in switchgear and at power plants in single or redundant versions. In the role of a station controller the device connects decentralized field control and protection devices, performs substation-wide automation functions, forms the voltage model and maintains the interface to the higher-level control center. It also handles communication and service connection with third-party devices as a COM server, coordinates interlocking (protection against incorrect switching) and 1-of-n blocking, and converts between different protocols.
PLC programs run with the SPRECON-E CP-2131 color display or with the SPRECON-E CP-2500 station display. Typical tasks for them are automatic switching, sequential control and interlocking. The devices keep event and alarm lists and make a backup copy to an SD card. The firmware and parameters are updated through the web server, remote maintenance and service are supported, and IT security is comprehensive. The control part is configured in SPRECON-E Designer with the built-in DISPLAY EDITOR. The same CP-2131 and CP-2500 displays are also used with SPRECON-E-C bay controllers.
The D..6-2 series is the basis for the entire SPRECON-E-P family. Combined versions of overcurrent protection DS..6-2, distance protection DD..6-2, and differential protection of lines DL..6-2 and transformers DQ..6-2 are built on it. The fault direction indicator function SPRECON-EDIR also belongs here. As a result, protections of different types in one substation share a common hardware and software base, identical displays and identical service.
The design is modular, and the manufacturer describes it as technically proven and commercially optimized. For a bay this is one device instead of a separate protection terminal and a control controller. Applications are 10–110 kV substations of distribution and transmission networks, power plants, industrial switchgear and digital substations.
