Description
SMPR combines in one terminal the current protection of a medium-voltage feeder, voltage, power and frequency protection, and measurement of electrical quantities. The terminals are installed as main and backup protection of feeders in distribution networks, power plants and industrial networks, as well as transformers, overhead and cable lines and generators. The family consists of three models, SMPR, SMPR ETH and SMPR-2, which differ in functions and ports.
SMPR and SMPR ETH measure the RMS values of line currents and earth current, line or phase voltages, active, reactive and apparent power in both directions, active energy in MWh and reactive energy in Mvarh, power factor and frequency. Present and maximum demand are recorded for phase current and power. The protections cover undervoltage (27), directional power (32), undercurrent (37), negative-sequence current (46), voltage phase sequence (47), instantaneous and time-delayed overcurrent for phases and earth (50, 50N/50G, 51, 51N/51G), power factor (55), overvoltage (59) and frequency (81). Function 68 issues a blocking signal and 86 provides lockout with manual reset. There is an overload alarm and a count of interrupted kA per phase.
SMPR-2 focuses on current protection with a thermal model. It provides overload protection (49), phase and earth overcurrent, directional earth fault protection (67N) and functions 68 and 86. Inverse curves in all models follow ANSI, IAC or IEC/BS142, from moderately to extremely inverse, and a definite time characteristic is also available.
The CT primary current is set from 5 to 6000 A in steps of 5 A, with secondary inputs of 1 A or 5 A. The terminal has a trip relay, three assignable auxiliary relays, a relay for loss of supply or internal fault, three programmable digital inputs and a breaker position input. Breaker failure on tripping is monitored, and the panel shows the position open, closed or earthed.
LEDs and an LCD show measured values, the cause of the last trip and stored fault values. The terminal is programmed from the touch keypad or remotely. SMPR ETH has an Ethernet port with Modbus TCP/IP and two RS-485 ports with Modbus RTU, SMPR-2 is fitted with RS-232 and RS-485, and Ethernet is available to order. The manufacturer's dry-type and cast-resin current transformers are used together with the terminals.
