Description
SME71-O, SME71-C and SME2-IS are secondary protection and fault location devices for remote-controlled distribution points and transformer substations of medium voltage grids. They quickly identify the faulted line section and shorten the supply interruption time.
SME71-O (RGDAT for outdoor installation) and SME71-C (RGDAT for indoor installation) are made to specification ENEL GSTP001. They provide local and remote signalling of short circuits and earth faults. The devices work in grids with isolated neutral, neutral earthed through a reactor with a parallel resistor, through a resistor, and solidly earthed. Phase-to-phase short circuits and earth faults are detected in both isolated and compensated grids without changing setpoints when the mode changes and regardless of the direction of supply. The fault direction is determined correctly even with intermittent earth faults.
The devices monitor the voltage of the three phases of the MV line and signal its presence or absence. A converter with a 4–20 mA output is provided for passing the phase current value to the telemechanics terminal. Communication is by Modbus RTU over the RS232 serial port.
SME2-IS (RGDM-I) is a device for indoor installation that meets specification ENEL GETP011 (protection and control device for MV substations, RGDM unit) and cybersecurity requirements. Its functions include overcurrent protection, directional earth fault protection, directional active power protection, auto-reclosing, and monitoring of voltage presence or absence and synchronism.
The SME2-IS detects multiphase and single-phase faults and line voltage drops, and measures voltage and active/reactive power in the MV line. It controls closing and opening of the DY800 circuit breaker on faults or on a command from the control point, interacts with generators in the MV grid to coordinate voltage regulation along the line and remote tripping signals, and measures coil current. The input circuits are designed for integrated phase current and voltage sensors, and reception of signals from active sensors is selected by software. Applications are automation of 10–20 kV distribution grids, remote-controlled sectionalising points and substations, and grids with distributed generation.
