Description
The S24 relays are built on a modular hardware platform with an economical set of modules. They are available in several standard configurations that are ready for operation right after the settings are entered. The relays are used as primary protection of overhead and cable lines, as protection of transformers and generator-transformer units, and as backup protection of motors, transformers and generators where an independent backup system is required. Networks with isolated, resistance-grounded, compensated and solidly grounded neutral are supported.
S24/F protects feeders and incomers with overcurrent protection, as well as induction motors (thermal model, negative sequence, undercurrent, start supervision); capacitor bank protection, auto-reclosing and breaker failure protection can be added as options. S24/Fr additionally has voltage protections for networks with low generation. S24/G adds loss-of-excitation protection to Fr and is designed for generators of 3–15 MW. S24/L provides line protection with distance protection. S24/LD provides longitudinal differential protection of lines and cables up to 50 km over single-mode fibre. S24/T provides differential protection of two-winding transformers and generator-transformer units. S24/U implements voltage and frequency protections and synchronism check. S24/HZ is high-impedance differential protection of busbars, transformers, generators and motors.
Hardware: 4 current inputs (3×1/5 A and 1×1/5/0.2 A with a sensitive channel), 8 in S24/T; 4 voltage inputs in versions with voltage measurement. As standard there are 6 binary inputs, 5 outputs, 2 fast trip outputs rated 4 A and a fault contact. The disturbance recorder stores up to 8 analogue and 32 binary channels, and the event log holds 1000 events with time stamps in non-volatile memory. Trip circuit supervision and self-diagnostics with blocking on failure are provided.
Communication via IEC 61850 with horizontal GOOSE exchange, IEC 60870-5-101, IEC 60870-5-103 and Modbus RTU. The 24 HP case allows flush, semi-flush or DIN-rail mounting, with IP54 protection at the front and IP20 at the rear. S24 relays are also field devices of the SIRACUS 2+ ring reconfiguration system. For many tasks the standard configuration is sufficient, so setup comes down to entering the settings.
