Description
SIRACUS 2+ is a centralized system for automatic reconfiguration of medium voltage ring networks operated in open-ring mode. The system is meant to maintain continuity of power supply. In case of a fault in the ring it automatically isolates the faulted section and restores supply to the healthy parts in minimum time, and the speed depends on the type of switching devices installed. For the network operator this means that locating and isolating the faulted section does not depend on dispatching personnel, and switching is performed by the algorithm of the selected mode.
The manufacturer offers six SIRACUS solution variants for different budgets and operating requirements. The choice also depends on which switching devices are already installed in the ring. For new and existing sites one of the six SIRACUS variants is taken without changing the MV cubicles, because the system is compatible with them. The system works with MV cubicles of any type and any manufacturer and supports five operating modes. They are enabled at the operator's request or automatically depending on the network state. The goal of all modes is the same: to isolate the faulted section and restore voltage to the healthy ones as quickly as possible.
The core of the system is the GB2+ ring manager. Its touch human-machine interface shows the state of the MV ring in real time and contains a full set of tools for operational control, analysis and event recording.
The field component is the Smartline S24 relay. One standardized device replaces all versions of the previous-generation relay and significantly extends the functionality. The S24 adapts to all cubicles, with and without a mechanical latch, and to all switching devices regardless of their origin. The relay performs protection and fault indicator functions at every point of the ring.
A modernization is offered for existing installations, so compatibility of the S24 relay with current SIRACUS systems is achieved by changing the application program of the ring manager. To keep the system ready for action throughout its service life, the manufacturer recommends periodic test campaigns. Applications are MV ring networks of industrial sites, airports, hospitals, infrastructure and commercial facilities where the power interruption time must be reduced without personnel intervention.
