Description
SIPROTEC 7SA87 and 7SL87 are modular protection relays for high- and extra-high-voltage transmission lines on the SIPROTEC 5 platform. They selectively and quickly clear short circuits and earth faults on overhead and cable lines in networks of any configuration and form the basis of protection and automation of transmission and distribution networks.
The 7SA87 relay provides distance protection of high-voltage lines with single- and three-pole tripping. Minimum tripping time is 9 ms. It features detection of current transformer saturation for fast and accurate operation, the Fault Locator Plus function for accurate fault location on non-homogeneous line sections, and targeted auto-reclosing of individual overhead line sections (AREC).
SIPROTEC 7SL87 combines phase-segregated differential and distance protection of overhead and cable lines. It works with single- and multi-ended infeed on lines of any length, with up to six line ends and single-pole tripping. The main function is differential protection with an adaptive algorithm, which keeps sensitivity and stability despite transformer errors, their saturation and capacitive line charging currents. Protection data are transmitted over optical fiber, two-wire communication lines and communication networks, with automatic switching between ring and chain topology. There are 12 standard versions, with 4/4 or 8/8 current/voltage inputs, 5–31 binary inputs and 8–46 outputs; the device is compatible with SIPROTEC 5 and SIPROTEC 4.
Both relays are configured in DIGSI 5, which combines protection, control, automation, monitoring and power quality functions, and logic is created in a graphical editor. Up to four exchangeable communication modules with PRP and HSR redundancy can be installed, and diagnostics are available through a web browser. The boards have a conformal protective coating for harsh conditions, and cybersecurity functions meet NERC CIP and BDEW Whitepaper requirements. The family also includes 7SA82/86, 7SD80/82/86/87 and 7SL82/86. Applications include overhead and cable lines of 35–750 kV.
