SCU 810, ECU 032 — system communication unit and media adapter for substations
The SCU 810 system communication unit and the ECU 032 media adapter for substations with the NEO 3000 system. The unit converts protocols and joins IEDs of different manufacturers, while the MCE 940 SCADA software receives data through the gateway. The adapter extends the set of interfaces for field devices.

Description
SCU 810 is a system communication unit for joining any intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) at a substation. It links the devices of the NEO 3000 substation control and protection system, and of its previous generation NEO 2000, with third-party devices. The unit works as a protocol converter, so protection terminals, controllers and meters of different kinds are integrated into one system.
In the NEO 3000 system the SCU 810 acts as a communication gateway. Through it the MCE 940 SCADA software exchanges data with devices of various types that support protocols other than IEC 61850 and IEC 60870-5-104. The FPC 680 protection terminals, the CAU 380 bay controllers and the NEO3000 Power System Manager software work together with the unit. In other words, the SCU 810 covers the part of the site where equipment does not speak the standard protocols of the system.
ECU 032 is a media adapter created specially to work with the SCU 810 system communication unit. It extends the set of physical interfaces, that is, transmission media, for connecting field devices. The adapter is designed to work with this unit only.
Application is distribution substation automation systems and integration of existing equipment when modernizing telecontrol. A typical situation is as follows. A substation has terminals of different generations and manufacturers, and the operator needs a single SCADA picture. The SCU 810 collects them into a common system without requiring replacement of every device.
Detailed technical data, namely ports, protocols and power supply, is not given on the manufacturer's available pages. For a project it is clarified for the specific task, based on the types of IEDs, their number and the required transmission medium.

Questions and answers
What does the SCU 810 do at a substation?
It joins the IEDs of the NEO 3000 (NEO 2000) system and third-party IEDs and converts protocols. In the NEO 3000 it works as the gateway for the MCE 940 SCADA.
What is the ECU 032 needed for?
It is a media adapter for the SCU 810. It extends the set of physical interfaces for connecting field devices.
Which devices does the SCU 810 work together with?
With the FPC 680 protection terminals, the CAU 380 bay controllers and the NEO3000 Power System Manager software. Protocols other than IEC 61850 and IEC 60870-5-104 are handled by the gateway itself.
