Description

For plants with generators operating in parallel with a medium or low voltage distribution grid, the manufacturer makes decoupling protection relays and cabinets. These are solar and wind power plants, cogeneration and gas engine plants, and small hydropower plants. Decoupling protection disconnects the generation from the grid in case of unacceptable voltage and frequency deviations and prevents operation onto an isolated section.

The basis is the Smartline S24/U voltage relay. It holds a temporary ATE approval for use, issued by the distribution network operator Enedis (France) and valid until 31 March 2027. The approval covers installations of types H, B and F, namely B1, H1, H2, H3.1, H4, H5 and F1. It is based on tests of the S24/U relay variant 6 with firmware 2.10.2. The relay provides undervoltage and overvoltage protection (27, 59), zero-sequence voltage protection (59N), frequency protection (81) and rate-of-change-of-frequency protection (df/dt), as well as synchronism check. It is manufactured at a plant in Budapest (Hungary).

There are three supply variants. The first, S24/U, is the relay in its initial configuration without preset settings, for customers who set all thresholds themselves. S24/U-GTE is pre-configured for decoupling protection, with the required functions enabled at the factory. The customer sets the values required by the grid company and the control logic using the free EuroCAP software. S24/U-xx is fully configured and set up in the production workshops, and the suffix indicates the selected variant: B1, H1, H2, H3.1, H4, H5 or F1. After connection according to the enclosed diagram, such a relay is ready for operation at once. A sealed cover is supplied in the set.

The decoupling cabinets are ready for use. The cabinet is fully assembled and wired at the factory and fitted with the S24/U-xx relay agreed at the time of order, and the sealed cover is already drilled and installed. On site the cabinet is connected according to the diagram, with no additional installation, setting or mechanical finishing work. Optionally, the cabinets are equipped with an automatic reclosing function, useful at unmanned substations. The manufacturer reports commissioning of decoupling cabinets of types B1 and H5 with the S24/U relay. Quarterly webinars on the S24/U-GTE relays and the EuroCAP software are held for specialists.
