PROTECTA DTVA — distance and differential protection of lines 110 kV and above

The DTVA terminals of the PROTECTA line protect overhead lines and cables of transmission networks of 110 kV and above. The DTVA/L version has five independent distance protection zones, DTVA/Di provides longitudinal differential protection. Single-pole and three-pole tripping, auto-reclosing with synchronism check.

Description

The DTVA family of the PROTECTA line is intended for protection, control and automation of overhead lines and cables of transmission networks. Such networks, as a rule, operate with a solidly grounded neutral, so single-phase earth faults are accompanied by currents of the same order as phase-to-phase short circuits and require fast protections. The main field of application is substations and transmission lines of grid companies, power output of power plants, and large high-voltage industrial substations.

The family includes two main versions. DTVA/L is a distance protection terminal with five independent zones that supports typical teleprotection schemes (POTT, PUTT and others). DTVA/Di is a longitudinal line differential protection terminal with additional backup functions. Distance protection operates in zones, while differential protection compares the currents at the line ends. The terminals perform single-pole and three-pole tripping and support schemes with two circuit breakers per bay, one-and-a-half breaker and ring schemes.

In addition to the main protections, the terminals provide directional and non-directional overcurrent protection, voltage and frequency protections. The auto-reclosing function for high-voltage networks performs multi-shot reclosing with synchronism check, with dead times set separately for each cycle and separately for single-phase and multi-phase faults. Built-in control, measurement and monitoring functions allow the IED to be used also as a bay controller. The manufacturer's website provides reference lists of power companies on the application of PROTECTA line protections. The functions are set by software, so the configuration for a particular line is changed without replacing hardware modules.

The PROTECTA platform is modular, hardware modules are selected for the task, functions are defined by software blocks and configured with the free EuroCAP software. The case, 84TE or 42TE wide, is 3U high. There is a colour touch display with a mimic diagram, a built-in web server and several setting groups. The disturbance recorder stores up to 32 analogue and 64 binary channels, and the event log holds more than 10 000 events. Communication via IEC 61850 Edition 2, IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3 TCP, Modbus TCP, as well as serial IEC 60870-5-101/103, DNP3, Modbus and SPA, time synchronisation via NTP or IRIG-B.
