PROTECTA DTRV — differential protection of power transformers and autotransformers
The DTRV terminals of the PROTECTA line protect and control two- and three-winding power transformers and autotransformers. The main function is differential protection with a set of backup protections, so a single device serves as the main IED of the transformer bay. Versions T2, T2V, T2R, T3, T3V, T3R and TZ.

Description
The DTRV family of the PROTECTA line consists of terminals for protection and control of power transformers, including two- and three-winding autotransformers. The main function is transformer differential protection. A large set of backup protections is added to it, so a single device can serve as the main IED of the transformer bay.
The versions differ as follows. DTRV/T2 protects a two-winding transformer, DTRV/T2V provides full protection of a two-winding transformer with voltage protections, DTRV/T2R combines differential protection with a built-in voltage regulator. DTRV/T3, DTRV/T3V and DTRV/T3R are the corresponding versions for three-winding transformers. DTRV/TZ is restricted earth fault protection. The automatic on-load voltage regulator DTRV/TR is produced separately and described in a separate item.
In addition to differential protection, the terminals provide three-phase overcurrent protection, zero-sequence (Io) and negative-sequence (I²) current protection, thermal overload protection, sensitive earth fault protection near the neutral (REF) or zero-sequence differential protection. Several overcurrent stages allow the transformer windings to be protected separately, and voltage protections are based on three-phase measurement on one of the windings.
The hardware is based on the common modular PROTECTA platform. The case, 84TE or 42TE wide, is 3U high, with a colour touch display with a mimic diagram, a web server, several setting groups and extended circuit breaker supervision. The disturbance recorder stores up to 32 analogue and 64 binary channels, and the event log holds more than 10 000 records in non-volatile memory. Configuration is done with the free EuroCAP program. The devices of the family use the same modules as the other PROTECTA terminals. IEC 61850 Edition 2 (with GOOSE), IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3 TCP, Modbus TCP and serial IEC 60870-5-101/103, DNP3, Modbus, SPA are supported, and time is synchronised via NTP and IRIG-B. Built-in control and measurement functions allow the terminal to be used as a transformer bay controller. The DTRV/TR regulator can be placed next to them in the same transformer protection cabinet. Applications: step-down and step-up substations of grid companies, unit transformers of power plants and main step-down substations of industrial enterprises.
