PROTECTA DTRV/TR — automatic transformer voltage regulator (OLTC)
The DTRV/TR regulator of the DTRV family of the PROTECTA line controls the tap changer of two- and three-winding transformers with OLTC automatically and manually. It takes the voltage drop in the network into account and is supplemented with voltage protections. The tap position is read as a 6-bit code or a mA signal.
- Purpose
- automatic and manual control of the OLTC of 2- and 3-winding transformers
- OLTC position
- 6 bit (binary code, BCD, Gray code, mA)
- Measurements
- 3 phase currents, zero-sequence current, 3 phase voltages and Uo on both sides
- Compensation
- voltage drop in the network taken into account

Description
DTRV/TR is an intelligent electronic device of the DTRV family of the PROTECTA line for automatic voltage regulation of power transformers with an on-load tap changer (OLTC). The terminal controls and monitors the tap changer of two- and three-winding transformers and is supplemented with voltage protection functions. The regulator operates in automatic and manual modes.
The terminal measures three phase currents, the zero-sequence current, as well as three phase voltages and the zero-sequence voltage on both sides of the transformer. The OLTC control function takes into account the voltage drop on network elements, so the voltage can be maintained at a specified point of the network, including on the consumer side. The tap position is read as a 6-bit code (binary, BCD, Gray code) or as an analogue mA signal, and supervision of the OLTC drive is provided.
For substations with a large number of signals, remote units are offered, namely the TRCS tap position transcoder with 28 inputs and 5 outputs and the RIO remote input-output unit. They are connected when there are too many tap position and binary signals for the terminal itself. On the same platform, the combined DTRV/T2R and DTRV/T3R terminals are produced, which combine transformer differential protection and a voltage regulator in one device. The regulator can work together with the DTRV/T2 and DTRV/T3 differential protection terminals in a transformer protection cabinet.
Like other PROTECTA products, DTRV/TR is built on a modular platform. The case, 84TE or 42TE wide, is 3U high, with a colour touch screen with a mimic diagram and a built-in web server. The disturbance recorder stores up to 32 analogue and 64 binary channels, and the event log holds more than 10 000 events. Configuration is done with the free EuroCAP program. The protocols IEC 61850 Edition 2, IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3, Modbus and SPA are supported, and the built-in control functions allow the device to be used as a bay controller. Applications: transformers of distribution and transmission substations, interconnection transformers, industrial substations where the voltage at the consumer must be maintained and the regulator must be integrated into an IEC 61850 automation system.
