PROTECTA ASZKG — automatic generator synchroniser
The ASZKG of the PROTECTA line performs automatic synchronisation of synchronous generators with the power system, including connection to one or two busbar systems. It issues the circuit breaker closing command at the moment the synchronism conditions are met and controls the generator frequency and voltage. Supports IEC 61850 Edition 2.
- Purpose
- automatic synchronisation of synchronous generators with the network
- Synchronisation points
- two, for one or two busbar systems, selected by user logic
- Functions
- synchrocheck, synchroswitch, raise/lower outputs for frequency and voltage
- Measurements
- line voltage of the generator and of each busbar system; optionally 3-phase voltages for absence-of-voltage check

Description
ASZKG is an intelligent electronic device of the PROTECTA line for automatic synchronisation of synchronous generators with the power system. The device performs precise synchronisation of a generator connected to one or two busbar systems and issues the circuit breaker closing command at the moment the synchronism conditions are met. Synchronisation can be performed at two different points of the scheme, with the choice of the point determined by user-defined logic. The target circuit breaker is switched, and automatic determination of the breaker closing time (delay compensation) is provided. The conditions for starting and cancelling the synchronisation process are set by the user.
ASZKG measures one line voltage of the generator and one line voltage of each busbar system. Optionally the device can measure three-phase voltages on each side to check for the absence of voltage (dead line / dead bus). The main function is the automatic generator synchroniser, an extended version of the synchronism check (synchrocheck) and synchronous switching (synchroswitch) functions. The device checks that closing is permissible and at the same time issues raise/lower commands for frequency and voltage to the generator regulators, bringing the machine to the synchronism conditions.
The device also contains a set of control and monitoring functions for full control of the primary switching apparatus of the substation and for implementing user-defined interlocking. It is built on the modular PROTECTA platform, hardware modules are selected for the task and functions are defined by software. Configuration is done with the free EuroCAP program. The start and cancel conditions, the choice of the synchronisation point and the interlocking logic are set by the user for the specific scheme, so the same device is suitable for schemes with one and with two busbar systems. The protocols IEC 61850 Edition 2, IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3, Modbus, SPA are supported, and time is synchronised via NTP and IRIG-B.
Applications: turbo- and hydro-generators, generators of small hydropower plants, diesel and gas engine power plants, island and industrial power systems where generators are connected for parallel operation with the network or with each other. The auto-synchroniser function is also built into the DGEN/2TS and DGEN/3TS versions, so ASZKG is used more often where synchronisation is performed by a separate device at a shared substation or in a scheme with several generators and two busbar systems.

Questions and answers
How many busbar systems does ASZKG serve?
The device synchronises a generator connected to one or two busbar systems, at two points of the scheme selectable by user logic.
Which voltages does ASZKG measure?
One line voltage of the generator and one line voltage of each busbar system. Three-phase voltages can optionally be measured to check for absence of voltage.
Is an auto-synchroniser included in the generator protection terminals?
Yes, in the DGEN/2TS and DGEN/3TS versions. A separate ASZKG is used when synchronisation is performed by a separate device, for example in a scheme with several generators.
