The NR PCS-9710, PCS-9799 and PCS-9794 devices form the communication layer of telecontrol and automation systems. They connect substation protection terminals, measuring instruments, controllers and other IEDs with control centres and top-level systems. They are used to modernise existing sites without replacing all equipment.

Description
The PCS-9710 works as a telecontrol unit (RTU) for high-, medium- and low-voltage substations and power plants. It accepts analogue AC and DC signals, has configurable binary inputs and outputs for telesignalling and telecontrol, and programmable logic. The RTU is built on the UAPC platform with a 16-bit parallel ADC and a 320×240 pixel graphic display, and the clock is synchronised with 1 ms accuracy. Two enclosures are available, a large 4U 19″ one for a greater number of modules and a more compact one, and up to three expansion chassis cover large I/O needs. A centralised RTU handles up to ten thousand data points.
The new-generation PCS-9710S is designed for flexible and secure integration into the infrastructure of power systems and industrial sites, in both new construction and reconstruction. It unifies data exchange with devices of different manufacturers that use different protocols and passes the information to the relevant recipients. Each independent communication channel to the control centre can transmit its own set of data. Through the RJ45 port on the panel and a service program, the database, messages and logs can be viewed, and the load of the processor, memory and disk can be monitored.
The PCS-9799 and PCS-9799S act as station communication managers (gateways) for complex substation automation systems with high performance and security requirements. They collect, process and store signals from protection relays, measuring devices, bay controllers and other IEDs and pass them to control centres and to the distributed control systems (DCS) of power plants.
The PCS-9794 converts protocols and works as a communication manager inside the automation system. It maps signals between IEDs and the local SCADA or protection information management system. In this way devices with IEC 60870-5-103, Modbus and other protocols are connected to an IEC 61850 based system, which is especially noticeable during phased modernisation. The devices of the line support IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-101/103/104, DNP3.0 and Modbus, time synchronisation and redundant channels, and configuration is done with the PCS-COMM tool. They are used at grid company substations, power plants, in railway power supply and at industrial plants.
