OPU-1 / OPL-1T power line carrier equipment for HV lines
OPU-1 and OPL-1T are power line carrier terminals for transmitting voice, data and teleprotection signals over power lines. OPU-1 works in the 36–512 kHz or 30–1016 kHz range with QAM and OFDM modulation, OPL-1T in the 40–500 kHz range with 20, 40 or 80 W PEP power.

Description
Power line carrier communication uses the HV line itself as the channel, so it works where there is no optical fibre or own communication network. The terminals transmit 1–2 standard 4 kHz channels in each direction. OPU-1 with QAM and OFDM modulation fits more data into the band, OPL-1T is simpler and has an output power of 20, 40 or 80 W PEP depending on the line length. These channels carry dispatcher voice, telecontrol and teleprotection commands between substations. The equipment complies with IEC 60495 and IEC 60834-1.
