microBEL SX / microBEL SRS — telecontrol controllers with fault indicators for MV transformer substations, switching stations and sectionalizing points (FDIR)

The microBEL SX and microBEL SRS telecontrol controllers for automation of MV distribution networks combine a fault current indicator or cell protection with RTU functions. They work in FDIR automation schemes, where a fault must be detected, located and the supply to the rest of the network restored. The SX version is installed at transformer substations and cable switching stations, the SRS on overhead MV sectionalizing points.

Description

The microBEL SX version serves transformer substations and cable MV switching stations equipped with current transformers and voltage sensors. The controller measures phase currents and voltages in several cells at once and, for each cell with a load break switch, detects phase-to-phase and earth faults. For circuit breaker cells it performs protection functions. The network neutral earthing mode may be any. Standard versions have from 1 to 6 fault indicators, a larger number is obtained with the BRG 3 module. There are up to 52 or 104 discrete inputs, 8 or 16 outputs, and consumption of up to 11/21 W.

The microBEL SRS variant is installed on overhead MV sectionalizing points with load break switches or disconnectors. Currents and voltages there are taken by measuring systems, in particular capacitive dividers. Versions with 1–3 fault indicators, 26 or 52 inputs and 8 outputs are available, with consumption of up to 10/15 W. The enclosure of the version with one indicator measures 125 × 161 × 110 mm, the versions with two and three indicators 125 × 245 × 110 mm.

The software configuration covers overcurrent, earth, admittance and directional earth criteria, so for a specific network the criterion that reliably recognizes the fault is selected. The correct operation of FDIR automation depends on this. There is a directional fault current flow indicator function, field interlocks, 4 setting groups, an event log with several levels of detail and a disturbance recorder with criterion-based triggering. The controller remotely diagnoses the uninterruptible power supply of the cabinet, and handles local switches for the control mode and setting group, as well as signals such as an open door.

Several communication ports allow simultaneous communication with the dispatch control system over TETRA, Trunking, NETMAN, GSM/3G/LTE radio networks and Ethernet 100BASE-TX, for example through an AMI router. There are also RS232 and RS485 interfaces, the DNP 3.0 and IEC 60870-5-104 protocols, and a remote engineering channel. Data exchange is protected by authentication according to IEC 62351 and 802.1x, IPSec tunnels and a firewall.

The supply is 24 V DC with a permissible range of 19–27.6 V. The metal enclosure is mounted on a TS-35 DIN rail, weighs up to 2 kg and has a degree of protection of IP20. The controllers operate at temperatures from −25 to +65 °C and humidity up to 95 %.
