MBW, PCM30U-OCH — interlocking and teleprotection equipment
Equipment from the manufacturer for transmitting interlocking signals and relay protection commands between substations. The MBW-xxx module implements station and inter-station interlocking over distances of up to 80 km over optical fiber, and teleprotection is represented by the TP10 and PCM30U-OCH devices. It is used on 110–400 kV lines and in distributed interlocking systems of power plants.

Description
The MBW-xxx works in a pair with an identical device at a remote site and can block disconnector operations depending on the position of earthing switches at substations located up to 80 km from each other. The device consists of a unit of 4 galvanically isolated digital inputs for 220 V or 24 V DC (or 4 relay inputs for 220 V DC) and a fiber-optic communication unit. The inputs, outputs and the communication channel are linked by a programmable FPGA under the supervision of a processor, and LEDs show the state of the inputs, outputs and transmission. The module can also be used to transmit the states of signal inputs of any devices over a single-mode or multimode channel directly to a monitoring system or to a paired device that reproduces them on relay outputs.
The MBW-00x leaflet describes versions with 2 normally open relay control outputs and 2 alarm outputs, normally closed in the MBW-001 and normally open in the MBW-002. The contact load is up to 0.4 A at 220 V DC and up to 8 A at 230 V AC. The transmission distance is from 40 m to 80 km depending on the fiber type, and 1 mm POF, 62.5/125 µm multimode and 9/125 µm single-mode fibers are supported. In interlocking mode the 4 inputs are configured as 2 two-bit inputs, and the state of device A is reproduced on the outputs of the remote device B. An error or break of the link, or switching off one of the devices, opens the control outputs in both sets and closes the alarm outputs. The module measures 200×120×90 mm, is fixed on a 35 mm DIN rail or on a panel, and is powered by 230/220 V AC/DC.
The SO-52v11-eMT remote control system monitors and controls geographically distributed interlocking processes and collects states at remote substations, and redundant channels and the PRP protocol are used for link reliability. The company supplies teleprotection of two types, and both are approved by PSE S.A. for operation in the national power system of Poland. The TP10 device is manufactured by TTC Marconi. Two sets at opposite ends of the line transmit from 4 to 10 bidirectional commands in modes under PN-EN 60834-1 with a delay of no more than 2 ms (up to 5 ms in IP networks) through 10 optically isolated inputs and outputs. Communication runs over optical fiber (SFP modules), an E1 channel (2 Mbit/s), Ethernet or RS-232, and a 1+1 redundancy scheme is possible. The second type of teleprotection is designated PCM30U-OCH.
The MBW module meets the requirements of PN-EN 61000-4-11 and PN-EN 61000-6-4, and the insulation is tested with 2.5 kV RMS AC for 1 min and with a 5 kV 1.2/50 impulse. Typical tasks of the equipment include inter-substation interlocking on 110–400 kV lines and transmission of remote trip commands and protection acceleration.
