IKI-30 CT-powered transformer protection relay for 160–12 500 kVA (IEC 60255)
IKI-30 is a protection relay for distribution transformers of 160–12 500 kVA, powered by current transformers under IEC 60255. It protects against overload, short circuits and earth faults and works without an external source of operating current. It is installed in transformer panels of ring main units.

Description
IKI-30 is powered by current transformers and complies with IEC 60255. It is used for distribution transformers with a rating of 160 to 12 500 kVA as protection against overload, short circuits and earth faults together with circuit breakers or switch-disconnectors. In combination with load-break switches and high-voltage fuse-links (HRC), the relay provides overload protection only. The typical installation location is transformer panels in ring main units and transformer substations without a source of operating current.
Tripping characteristics. The choices available are an inverse-time (IDMT) characteristic under ANSI 51 (IEC extremely inverse and very inverse), a two-stage definite-time overcurrent protection (ANSI 51), instantaneous overcurrent (ANSI 50), external fast tripping without time delay, and optional earth fault protection (ANSI 50N). The rated current setting range is 5–260 A. The I>> setting is 2–20 In (8 values) with a delay of 0–2 s or disabled. The overcurrent stage is 1.1–3 In with a delay of 1–300 s, the Ie>> stage is 0.1–2 In, 0–5 s. The relay's own time is 43 ms. Reset takes place after 2 h, automatically when the load current is restored, or manually.
Tripping. The relay controls a low-power trip coil without an external supply or a standard coil with a separate PSU energy storage unit. For remote signalling there are two dry contacts (NO/NC, signal / trip) and a watchdog fault signal. Tripping takes place without an external supply, which is important for substations without operating current.
Power supply and maintenance. The relay is maintenance-free. It is powered by current transformers starting from a primary current of 1 A, and buffer power is provided by a lithium battery with a service life of more than 15 years. An auxiliary supply of 24–230 V AC/DC with a consumption of less than 1 W is possible. A functional check is performed on site with the test button. Panel-mount housing 48 × 96 × 80 mm (DIN 43700), IP40, operating temperature −25…+55 °C, frequency 50/60 Hz. The relay is used with split-core current transformers IKI-LUM_30_d92 and the cable transformer IKI-GSU.

Questions and answers
What transformer ratings is the IKI-30 relay designed for?
For transformers from 160 to 12 500 kVA. Together with circuit breakers it protects against overload, short circuits and earth faults, and with load-break switches and HRC fuse-links it provides overload protection.
What settings does the relay have?
Rated current 5–260 A, I>> 2–20 In with a delay of 0–2 s, overcurrent stage 1.1–3 In with a delay of 1–300 s. The relay's own time is 43 ms.
Is an external supply needed for IKI-30?
No, the relay is powered by current transformers from a primary current of 1 A. A lithium battery of more than 15 years serves as the buffer, and the 24–230 V AC/DC auxiliary supply is optional.
