Description
The MCA4 from the HighPROTEC line connects distributed generation facilities to the grid: wind and solar power plants and biogas installations. The terminal protects the installation and makes sure that the connected generation complies with the grid rules. The independent institute TÜV Nord has certified the MCA4 as fully compliant with VDE-AR-N 4110. The quality of HighPROTEC devices has been confirmed at KEMA through all tests under IEC 60255-1:2009. The terminal is also used for feeder protection, grid decoupling and as backup generator protection.
The current inputs are designed for 1 A and 5 A CTs, and built-in test sockets are provided. The phase overcurrent protection has six stages, directional and non-directional (ANSI/IEC/51C/51V). The earth-fault protection has four stages, non-directional or directional with multi-polarisation, complemented by wattmetric protection. Two stages handle load unbalance. The voltage protection has six stages V<, V>, V<(t), and six more stages monitor voltage unbalance. The fourth voltage input works as VE> or for synchronism check. Frequency protection is set in six stages (f>, f<, df/dt, vector jump), and power protection also has six stages (P, Q, S, reverse power). There are separately two power factor stages and a limit on the maximum exported power.
The grid connection package is collected in a single menu. It includes non-selective unloading by active power direction, HVRT and FRT (LVRT) with adjustable profiles coordinated with auto-reclosing, Q-U protection, automatic reconnection, frequency protection, trip transfer and synchronism check. For power quality, THD protection is provided, together with recording of peak current and power values, average current and energy consumption.
The terminal runs on a dual-core processor. The Modbus, Profibus, DNP3.0, IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-103 and IEC 60870-5-104 protocols have individual data point assignment, time is synchronised by SNTP and IRIG-B, and cybersecurity functions are included. Non-volatile recorders store waveforms of 120 s, 20 faults, 300 events and a trend of 4000 records. All protection, control and monitoring functions, the Smart view software and waveform analysis are included in the price under the all-inclusive concept. The MCA4 is used at the points of common coupling of wind and solar plants, at cogeneration and biogas installations, at industrial sites with their own generation, and on ships and offshore facilities.
