FLUIDPOWER — HPUX oil pressure units, PUH cabinets, PVX/DVX electrohydraulic mechanisms and MODX overspeed protection for 1–1000 MW hydro turbines
FLUIDPOWER is a line of electromechanical and hydraulic equipment for controlling water flow at hydropower plants with Pelton, Francis, Kaplan and bulb turbines rated from 1 to 1000 MW. It includes HPUX oil pressure units, PUH control cabinets, PVX and DVX electrohydraulic mechanisms and MODX mechanical overspeed protection. Together with the RVX POWER digital governor, the equipment forms a complete turbine governor.

Description
The line covers three areas: actuation systems for hydraulic and pneumatic servomotors, protection of rotating machines against overspeed, and measurement of servomotor position and rotational speed. The HPUX oil pressure unit produces, stores, conditions and monitors the working oil and supplies it under pressure to the turbine governing and automation systems. It drives the servomotors of the wicket gates (Francis), runner blades (Kaplan and bulb), and nozzle needles and deflectors (Pelton). Each unit is designed for a specific site. At operating plants HPUX is also used for partial modernization, replacing proportional and directional valves, sensors and filters. According to the RVX/RTVX brochures, the hydraulic block with an electrohydraulic converter on standard distributors has a flow of up to 1500 L/min, and with main spool valves up to 10 000 L/min.
An oil pressure unit needs a system for control and supervision of the main oil parameters, and this role is performed by the PUH cabinet. It monitors oil pressure, temperature, level and contamination, and controls pumps, valves, filter changeover, and oil cooling or heating. It is made microprocessor-based, single or redundant, with oscillography, SOE, communication protocols and a graphical interface. A simpler version is built on switches, push buttons and indicator lamps. The PUH logic can be moved directly into RVX POWER.
The PVX electrohydraulic mechanism controls servomotors through proportional valves to which the governor supplies an analog current or voltage signal. During modernization it replaces old valves, for example TR-10 from other manufacturers. The DVX version for large units has a main spool valve controlled by proportional valves. The MODX mechanical device protects the turbine-generator unit against damage when the rotational speed is exceeded. It is installed on units from under 1 MW to over 1000 MW, installation is simple, and an optional trip alarm contact is available with output to the RVX POWER interface.
For small and medium hydropower plants the line includes pneumatic governing systems that reduce the use of hydraulic oil, which the manufacturer presents as an environmental advantage. The hydraulic schemes are developed by the manufacturer's mechanical engineers, who also supervise manufacture and installation and commission the whole hydraulic system.

Questions and answers
What unit rating is the FLUIDPOWER line intended for?
For units with Pelton, Francis, Kaplan and bulb turbines rated from 1 to 1000 MW. The MODX device is used from under 1 MW to over 1000 MW.
What oil flow do the hydraulic blocks provide?
A hydraulic block on standard distributors is rated up to 1500 L/min, and the version with main spool valves up to 10 000 L/min. The DVX mechanism with a main spool valve is intended for large units.
Can an existing oil pressure unit be modernized?
Yes, HPUX is also used for partial modernization, replacing proportional and directional valves, sensors and filters. The PVX mechanism replaces old valves, for example TR-10.
