Description
The software is intended for facilities where several generation sources operate at the same time. These can be diesel and gas engine units, hydro units, energy storage and renewable sources. Each has its own dynamics, its own load limits and start conditions, so without common control logic the operator coordinates them manually. The software unites these assets into one system and controls them according to the set parameters. In this way the plant operates as a single source for the grid or for an islanded consumer.
Based on the entered parameters, the software regulates frequency and performs unit starts and stops. Input data usually come from the plant operator and from the grid owner. The operator sets the parameters, and the software itself determines when to start or stop a unit and how to hold the frequency within the set limits. Automation takes over the routine operations of everyday running, and the risk of personnel errors is reduced.
The algorithms use the manufacturer's experience of how different energy sources work and how they behave in different modes. The software integrates with other automation software without adaptation costs and is easy to configure, which saves the customer time and money every day. Therefore the software can be added to an existing plant automation system.
The main application segments are diesel and hybrid power generation, including marine and island power systems, and hydropower. In island and marine systems the frequency is held by the units themselves, so frequency regulation and start control functions are the main ones there. At hydropower plants the software works together with turbine governors. At hybrid plants, where energy storage and renewable sources stand next to diesel units, the software coordinates all sources as a whole.
The software is supplied as part of the same manufacturer's automation systems, including with VECOS controllers, HPG and eHPG turbine governors and excitation systems. It can be used together with central control room systems on the WinCC OA platform. The manufacturer's automation line also covers machine protection, cybersecurity and central control room systems. Selection requires the composition and capacities of the plant units, the grid connection scheme and the grid operator's requirements for regulation.
