Description
CAU 380 is a bay controller (bay computer) for control, measurement and monitoring in distribution substations of power systems and industrial plants. The device is part of the NEO 3000 substation system and of the CAU series of controllers. A feeder or bay is controlled locally from the local display unit LDU (optionally graphic) and remotely through the substation control system.
The controller supports horizontal GOOSE exchange and integrates directly into substation automation systems and SCADA. The control and interlocking logic is programmed with function blocks according to IEC 61131. In the full configuration the CAU 380 has 154 digital inputs, 32 digital outputs, 12 analog inputs (8 current and 4 voltage, or 5 current and 7 voltage), 2 Ethernet ports and 2 serial communication ports. Redundant Ethernet is supported.
The communication protocols are IEC 61850 MMS with GOOSE, IEC 60870-5-101, IEC 60870-5-103, IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3 and Modbus. IEC 61850 conformance is certified by KEMA (level A). A certificate of this level confirms that the implementation of the standard has passed independent testing. Configuration is done with the NEO3000 Power System Manager program.
Application is bay controllers and substation RTUs at 10–110 kV distribution substations and industrial main step-down substations, and also in the reconstruction of telecontrol systems with a move to IEC 61850. The manufacturer's website provides the CAU 380 catalogue and the KEMA certificate. Data on power supply, installation and dimensions is not given on the page, so it is clarified with the manufacturer. The number of inputs and outputs depends on the device configuration, so the set of modules is determined from the signal list of the bay.
