Description
BESTCOMSPlus® is the main settings and monitoring program for BE1-FLEX, BE1-700V, BE1-11, DECS-150, DECS-250, DECS-250E, DECS-250N, DECS-450, DGC-2020, DGC-2020ES and DGC-2020HD. This list includes the BE1-FLEX protection, automation and control system, the BE1-11 protection system and the BE1-700V voltage relay, the DECS digital excitation control systems, including DECS-250N with negative field forcing, and the DGC digital generator plant controllers. Digital devices have a huge number of configurable parameters. The program shows the device configuration clearly and helps manage the interaction of systems confidently during commissioning, operation and diagnostics. Settings are presented graphically and arranged in a menu tree.
The device logic is built in the BESTlogic™Plus graphical editor by dragging elements. This approach is simple to implement and reduces the likelihood of errors. Offline simulation and real-time display of logic states show how the device is configured and what it does at a specific moment. The scheme can be checked before going to site, and during operation it shows which logic elements have operated.
For measurements and commissioning the program has real-time data analysis and recording, step and frequency injection tools, control panels, phasor diagrams and extended measurement functions. They are used during commissioning, fault finding and compliance testing to NERC requirements. Step injection, for example, is used to check the response of the DECS exciter to a step change of the voltage setpoint.
BESTdata is designed for detailed analysis of previously recorded events, when basic amplitude measurements are not enough to find the root cause of a fault. Protection engineering services need it to analyze a fault after protection operation, when the sequence of events must be reconstructed. The program opens COMTRADE records, builds virtual channels, trajectories and vectors. BEST61850™ configures the IEC 61850 protocol, available as a BE1-FLEX option, and helps integrate devices of different manufacturers into the substation automation system.
All three programs are downloaded from the Resource Hub section of the manufacturer's website without paying a license fee. The devices they work with are designed and manufactured at plants in Highland, Illinois and Taylor, Texas, USA. The manufacturer also provides staff training at its base or at the customer's site, and technical support is available around the clock.
