BELplus — universal digital protection relay and automation terminal for MV bays
BELplus is a digital protection relay and automation terminal for medium-voltage switchgear. It works in incomer, feeder, bus-section and metering bays, on auxiliary transformers, capacitor banks and motors. A single device within one hardware version can back up all the protections of a substation.

Description
Development and production of the BELplus line are concentrated at the plant in Łódź (Poland). High computing power, a fully scalable input and output subsystem and flexible configuration make it possible to adapt the device profile to a specific facility and to user requirements and standards without loss of operating accuracy. The hardware platform is the same for incomer and feeder bays, auxiliary and earthing transformers, capacitor banks and high-power induction motors, and the functional profile is changed from the panel.
In advanced automation schemes BELplus performs overcurrent protection, voltage protections, earth fault and frequency protections. Of the station automation, auto-reclosing, ATS, breaker failure protection and under-frequency load shedding are available, as well as more complex functions, for example passive and active islanding schemes. The settings can be changed temporarily and dynamically, and 4 groups are switched automatically. The terminal works with arc flash sensors.
As standard the device has 10 measuring inputs, namely phase voltages, zero-sequence voltage, an additional voltage U4 (for example, for synchro-check), phase currents and two zero-sequence current channels. The number of discrete inputs and outputs is set by the order variant. The operating circuits are rated for 24, 48, 110 or 220 V DC, the supply is 24–48 V DC or 110–220 V DC, the consumption is not more than 22 W. Supervision of trip and close circuits is built in.
The panel has a color touch display and programmable LEDs, and COMTRADE files are viewed on it as well. The disturbance recorder is triggered by criteria, a slow-process recorder works separately, and the event log has several levels of detail. The logic is programmed graphically by drag&drop. For checks there is a test mode without primary circuits.
Communication with SCADA is two-channel, the protocols are IEC 61850, DNP 3.0, IEC 60870-5-101/103/104 and Modbus RTU, the interfaces are ETH 100BASE-TX/FX, CAN, RS485/422, RS232 and POF/GOF. Configuration is done with the BEL_navi program or through a web interface, and the remote engineering channel allows parameters, logic and software to be changed. The aluminium profile enclosure is flush-mounted or surface-mounted, including in a 19-inch rack, with dimensions of 218 × 218 × 185 mm, a weight of up to 5 kg, IP20 and operation from −10 to +55 °C. The terminal is part of the windEX remote monitoring system.
