Description
The 25A synchronizer supports two modes: phase-lock-loop (PLL) and anticipatory synchronizing. They improve the quality of generator closing for parallel operation. Setup is simplified while the protection capabilities remain extended. Differential protection (87) detects faults inside the stator winding, while backup distance protection (21) operates on external short circuits if the main protections have not operated. The synchronizer matches frequency, voltage and phase before the generator is connected to the busbars. Generators of different types need different sets of protections, so the functions are selected according to the connection scheme and unit power. Oscillograms of fault events simplify the analysis of generator damage. Energy consumption records and power quality indicators help assess the operating mode of the unit during the day, in particular when the generator runs in parallel with the network.
The device belongs to the BE1-11 family, which is intended to reduce the problems caused by the complexity of protection programming. BESTspace™ files, ready-made BESTlogic™Plus schemes and application materials for a specific type of facility allow the generator protection to be put into service quickly. Setup is done in the BESTCOMSPlus® programme, and the offline simulator checks the logic without hardware.
All BE1-11 versions share one firmware and common platform features: 24 standard time-current characteristics and a practically unlimited number of user-defined curves; Ethernet 10/100 Mbit/s over copper or 100 Mbit/s over fibre with IEC 61850, DNP and Modbus® protocols; large screw terminals. The relay locates the fault distance, records oscillograms of events, keeps energy consumption records, logs power quality indicators and monitors the breaker status. The front panel has an HMI menu with a large LCD, programmable indicators and labels, and select–execute buttons. Analog outputs are configurable.
BE1-11g is used on power station and distributed generation units, including hydro and turbine generators, gas and diesel engine sets and generators of industrial CHP plants. The relay also works together with DECS series excitation systems. For simple generator sets the manufacturer offers single-function BE1 relays (25, 32, 40Q, 64F) and ES relays, and for maximum flexibility the BE1-FLEX system.
