Description

The BE1-11 platform has several versions: BE1-11f for feeders, 11i for intersystem links, 11m for motors, 11g for generators, 11t for transformers and 11d for DC networks. All of them run the same firmware, so the setup logic, software and interfaces are identical. Staff work with the same interface on feeders, motors, generators and transformers. The set of functions for each version is given in the product bulletin.

Typical feeder functions include phase and ground (zero-sequence) overcurrent protection with and without time delay, directional protection, auto-reclosing, accelerated reclosing, and voltage and frequency protection. The relay is installed on outgoing lines of distribution networks and industrial facilities. BE1-11f replaced the discontinued BE1-951 and BE1-851 relays, so it is also considered when upgrading old panels. An IEC 61850 connection brings the relay into the digital substation control system, while DNP and Modbus® support communication with existing systems.

Common platform features include 24 standard time-current characteristics and a practically unlimited number of user-defined curves; Ethernet 10/100 Mbit/s over copper or 100 Mbit/s over fibre with IEC 61850, DNP and Modbus® protocols; and large screw terminals. The relay locates the fault distance, records event oscillograms, keeps energy consumption records, logs power quality indicators and monitors the breaker status. The front panel has an HMI menu with a large LCD, programmable indicators and labels, and select-execute buttons. Configurable analog outputs are also provided.

Setup is done in the BESTCOMSPlus® programme, with graphs, built-in error checking and summary screens. Configuration is simplified by BESTspace™ files, several ready-made BESTlogic™Plus logic schemes and application guides for specific facilities. The offline simulator checks the logic without hardware, so errors in the scheme are found before commissioning. The platform is designed to reduce the problems caused by the complexity of protection programming. Setting errors are visible at the entry stage thanks to built-in checking, and summary screens show the result of the setup in one place.

Questions and answers

Which communication protocols and interfaces does the BE1-11f support?

Ethernet 10/100 Mbit/s over copper or 100 Mbit/s over fibre, with IEC 61850, DNP and Modbus. The terminals are large screw type.

Which relays does the BE1-11f replace?

The discontinued BE1-951 and BE1-851 relays. The replacement scheme is selected by purpose and main parameters, and the final choice is made together with a manager.

How many standard characteristics does the relay have?

24 standard time-current characteristics and a practically unlimited number of user-defined curves. The logic can be checked in the offline simulator without hardware.
